Election, accept from any Candidate, or from any person what-
soever, for or in consideration of such employment, any sum of
money, retaining fee, office, place or employment, shall vote at such
Election, every such person so employed, and voting contrary to
this enactment, shall forfeit the sum of Fifty Pounds to any person
who shall sue for the same in any of Her Majesty's Courts of Record
in Dublin: Provided always, That no such action shall be brought
later than Twelve calendar Months after the time of committing any
such offence; and the vote of such person shall be removed from
the Poll of the Candidate for whom he may have voted by any Com- 10
mittee of the House of Commons or other tribunal appointed to try
the merits of any Petition controverting the validity of the Election
at which such person may have voted.

And be it Enacted, That if any person shall vote twice at the same Election, or having already voted, shall tender or offer his vote again 15 at the same Election, or shall personate any Voter, and give or tender a vote as such Voter, such person shall be guilty of a Misdemeanor, and shall, upon being convicted thereof, in addition to the pains and penalties hereinbefore imposed on persons wilfully making false answer to either of the questions hereinbefore authorized to be 20 put at the time of polling, be punishable with imprisonment with hard labour for the period of Sir calendar Months.

And be it Enacted, That if any person who shall hereafter be returned to serve in Parliament shall either voluntarily or at the request of any other person, give, or cause to be given, any money, 25 security or valuable thing whatsoever contrary to any of the enactments in this Act in that behalf contained, the return of such person shall be and the same is hereby declared to be void.

And be it Enacted and Declared, That no indenture, writing or other instrument whatever, containing the Return of any Member or Members to serve in Parliament shall be liable to any Stamp Duty, or to any other Government Duty whatsoever.

And be it Enacted, That if any Returning Officer or Clerk of the Peace, or any person acting under the authority of such Returning Officer or Clerk of the Peace shall wilfully contravene or disobey the 35 provisions of this Act or any of them, he shall for such his offence be liable to be sued in an action of debt in any of Her Majesty's Courts of Record at Dublin, for the penal sum of Two hundred Pounds; and the Jury before whom such action shall be tried may find their Verdict for the full sum of Two hundred Pounds, or for any less sum which the said Jury shall think it just that he should pay

for such his offence, and the Defendant in such action being convicted shall pay such penal sum so awarded, with full costs of suit, to the party who may sue for the same: Provided always, That no such action shall be brought except by a person being an Elector, or claiming to be an Elector or a Candidate, or a Member actually returned, or other party actually aggrieved: Provided also, That the remedy hereby given against the Returning Officer shall not be construed to supersede any remedy or action against him according to the law now in force.

HEREAS it is expedient to amend the Law relative to the Preamble.

W Registry of Voters in Ireland; BE it therefore Enacted,

by The QUEEN's most Excellent MAJESTY, by and with the Advice and Consent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this present Parliament assembled, and by the Authority of the same, THAT no person shall, after the Fifteenth day of October in the present year, be entitled to vote at any Election (the Election for the University of Dublin only excepted), unless he shall have been registered conformably to the provisions of this Act.

And be it Enacted That in this Act the word "Lord Lieutenant" shall Interpretabe construed to extend to any Chief Governor or Governors of Ireland tion Clause. for the time being; the word "Member" shall mean Member or Members to serve in Parliament; the words "Clerks of the Peace" shall include any Deputy of such Clerk of the Peace, and the Town 15 Clerk or other Officer having the legal custody of Records relating to the Registry of Voters; the word "Town" shall comprehend a County of a City, County of a Town, Borough or other place entitled to send a Member or Members to Parliament; the word " Register" shall mean Register of Electors entitled to vote for a Member of 20 Parliament; and the words "Assistant Barrister" shall include the Chairman of the Sessions of the County of Dublin; and the word "Election" shall mean Election of a Member or Members to serve in Parliament; and the word "Returning Officer" shall mean Returning Officers where there are more than one.

And be it Enacted, That the Lord Lieutenant shall, before the First day of June in the present year, divide the several counties into districts for holding Registry Sessions, and shall appoint in each district a place for holding Sessions for the registry of persons entitled to vote at Elections in respect of qualifications arising from property situate in such district, and each county shall (in so far as circumstances will admit) be so divided into districts as that no part of a district shall be more than Ten Miles distant from the place appointed for holding the Registry Sessions for such district; and the Lord Lieutenant may, in subsequent years previous to the First of 10 June in each year, vary such districts by making a new division of any county: Provided always, That in the case of towns it shall not be necessary to appoint more than one place for holding the Registry Sessions for each such town; but the Lord Lieutenant may direct that the Voters in any town shall be classed according to 15 parishes or wards, and such parishes or wards shall be the registry

districts of such town.

And be it Enacted, That the Lord Lieutenant shall also appoint the time at which the Registry Sessions shall be held for each district : Provided always, That the first Registry Sessions to be held in each 20 circuit shall commence during the First week in August in each year; and the hours for the despatch of business at each such Registry Sessions shall be from Nine o'clock in the forenoon until Sir o'clock in the afternoon, and not later.

And be it Enacted, That notice of such division of counties into 25 districts, and of the places appointed for holding Registry Sessions for each district, and of the time at which such Registry Sessions shall be holden, shall be published in the Dublin Gazette before the First day of June in each year, and such notice shall specially state what half-barony or baronies shall be comprised within each registry dis- 30 trict, and a copy of such Gazette shall be transmitted to the Clerk of the Peace acting for each county and town, and such Clerk of the Peace shall forthwith cause so much of such notice as relates to the county or town for which he acts to be published in some newspaper usually circulating in such county or town, and shall transmit one copy of 35 such notice to the Clerk of each Petty Sessions held within such county or town, to be by him posted in some conspicuous place in the room or court in which such Petty Sessions are usually held.

And be it Enacted, That the several counties and towns shall be conjoined for the purpose of forming Registry Circuits in the manner 40 set forth in Schedule (A.) to this Act annexed, and the several Assistant Barristers of Ireland shall successively proceed on such circuits in the rotation hereinafter mentioned, and shall attend at the
