(20.) Division
of Counties, &c.

XX. Division of Counties and Boundaries of Boroughs.
The frequent reference by the Reform Act to the 2 & 3 Wil. IV. c. 64,
which was subsequently passed for the purpose of settling and describing
the divisions of counties, and the limits of cities and boroughs, has rendered
its introduction under this division of the work indispensably requisite, and
consequently swelled its extent considerably beyond the wish and original
intention of the Editors. As, however, it may not unfrequently be neces-
sary to ascertain the fixed limits of particular boroughs, not only with refer-
ence to the election of members to serve in parliament, but in explanation
of the "Act for the Regulation of Municipal Corporations," it has been
thought advisable to insert it under this head, as more properly appertaining
to the subject than under the title "Corporations ;" and in our observations
on the Municipal Corporation Act we have accordingly referred to it in its
place here.

By the 2 & 3 Wil. IV. c. 64, after reciting that," by an act passed in this 2 W. IV. c. 45.
present session of parliament, and intituled An Act to amend the Repre-
sentation of the People in England and Wales,' it was (amongst other things)
provided, that each of the counties enumerated in the schedule marked (F.)
thereto annexed should be divided into two divisions, which divisions should
be settled and described by an act to be passed for that purpose in this pre-
sent parliament, which act, when passed, should be deemed and taken to
be part of the act now in recital as fully and effectually as if incorporated
therewith; and that two knights of the shire should be chosen for each
division of the said counties; and that the court for the election of such
knights of the shire should be held at the place to be named for that pur-
pose in the act so to be passed for settling and describing the divisions of the
said counties: and whereas the act so to be passed for settling and describ-
ing the divisions of the said counties, as in the said recited act is mentioned,

(20.) Division is this present act: and also that the several counties enumerated in the of Counties, &c. said schedule marked (F.) to the said recited act annexed are the several counties whereof the divisions are hereinafter settled and enacted.
