(Q. 1.) WORKMEN'S COMPENSATION.-I send the following which I have copied from my notebook: Where a workman is incapacitated for work by reason of an accident arising out of and in the course of his employment, the liability of the employer to pay compensation will remain notwithstanding that the continuance of such incapacity is caused by a supervening physical disability-e.g., heart disease, scarlet fever, lunacy, imbecility following on old age, or detention in prison of the workman: (Harwood v. Wyken Colliery Company, 108 L. T. Rep. 283; Brown v. Kent Limited, 109 L. T. Rep. 293; McNally v. Furniss, 109 L. T. Rep. 270).

-in fact, indispensable."

"Permit me to express my pleasure at the publication of HALSBURY'S LAWS OF ENGLAND in the Turnover' India Paper issue.

"Prior to its receipt I was compelled to
use the thick edition, which was very
cumbersome when travelling; but it is a
real pleasure to have the same work in
this edition, as one can carry three or four
volumes of it in the same space as was
occupied by one of the thick edition.

"To any practitioner who practises
outside the town where his office is
situated, this edition will be a great boon
-in fact, I might say indispensable. The
work is most accurate and reliable, and is
just as legible in the thin edition
paper
in the thick."

ON Thursday the full Court of Appeal, consisting of the Master of the Rolls, the five Lords Justices, and presided over by the Lord Chief Justice, sat to consider some points that have arisen with regard to alien enemies and proceedings in the courts. It is eminently essential that all questions arising out of the war and the emergency legislation should be disposed of by all the judges of the Court of Appeal sitting together, and that as soon as possible after the appeals are set down. We cannot recollect a previous instance where a special court of seven judges has been formed, but in certain cases a court of six has sat for dealing with matters of more than usual importance. The last instance was in May 1912, in Scott v. Scott (107 L. T. Rep. 211), where the right to hear nullity suits in camera, and questions as to contempt of court and appeal in a "criminal cause or matter," were discussed.

Solicitors' Certificates.

MR. JUSTICE ASTBURY had an interesting question raised before him this week with reference to a solicitor's certificate. The plaintiff's solicitor held a country certificate, but his address on the writ was given in London, and it was contended that under the circumstances the proceedings were void and the action should be dismissed. It is not surprising that the learned judge refused to accede to this request and merely adjourned the case, so that the plaintiff could take steps to regularise his position, following the opinion of Vice-Chancellor WOOD that "it would be most mischievous indeed if
