CHAPTER 24.

An Act to amend the "Infants Act."

[Assented to 21st December, 1923.]

IS MAJESTY, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of the Province of British Columbia, enacts as follows:

1. This Act may be cited as the "Infants Act Amendment Act, Short title. 1923."

2. Section 68 of the "Infants Act," being chapter 107 of the Amends s. 68. Revised Statutes of British Columbia, 1911," is amended by adding thereto the following words: "Instead of ordering delivery of the child to a children's aid society, the Judge may by his order direct delivery of the child to the Superintendent to be placed in a foster home approved by the Superintendent, and in that case the Judge shall deliver to the Superintendent a certified copy of the order. The Superintendent may place the child in an approved foster home, or may at any time deliver the child to a children's aid society, to be kept and dealt with in like manner as if delivered under the order of a Judge pursuant to this section. In case of the delivery of the child by the Superintendent to a children's aid society, he shall deliver to the society the certified copy of the order of the Judge, endorsed with a memorandum, signed by the Superintendent, setting out the delivery of the child by him to the society pursuant to this section."

An Act to amend the "Public Inquiries Act."

IS MAJESTY, by and with the advice and consent of the
Legislative Assembly of the Province of British Columbia,

enacts as follows:

c. 110; 1917, c. 30.

1. This Act may be cited as the "Public Inquiries Act Amend- Short title. ment Act, 1923."

2. Section 3 of the "Public Inquiries Act," being chapter 110 of Amends s. 3. the "Revised Statutes of British Columbia, 1911," as re-enacted by section 3 of the "Public Inquiries Act Amendment Act, 1917," is amended by numbering the present section as subsection (1), and adding thereto the following subsection:

"(2.) In addition to the matters into and concerning which an inquiry may be caused to be made and a Commission may be issued under subsection (1), the inquiry and Commission may in any case include an inquiry into and concerning the conduct and character of any person by whom a demand for the inquiry was made, or by whom the charges were preferred, or the allegations of wrongdoing were made which led up to the inquiry, including the owners, publishers, and editors of all journals, newspapers, and periodicals published in the Province which preferred such charges, or made such demand or allegations, and including all acts done or offences committed by any such person in relation to public affairs or business, Federal, Provincial, or municipal, and including all matters. which may tend to disclose the motives of any such person in preferring such charges or in making such demand or allegations."

An Act to amend the " British Columbia Fire

Insurance Act."

IS MAJESTY, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of the Province of British Columbia, enacts as follows:

1. This Act may be cited as the "British Columbia Fire Insurance Short title. Act Amendment Act, 1923."

2. The "British Columbia Fire Insurance Act," being chapter Enacts s. 3A. 113 of the "Revised Statutes of British Columbia, 1911," is amended

by inserting the following as section 3A:

Where the Superintendent has reason to believe that any person has failed to make a return or has made an incorrect return under this section, he may at all reasonable times inspect all contracts and policies of insurance within the scope of this section effected by that person and all books and documents relating thereto, and it shall be the duty of that person and every other person having possession, custody, or control of any such contract, policy, book, or document to produce it to the Superin
