"(j.) To enforce the provisions of section 159 in respect of the

compulsory attendance of children at public schools."

11. Section 136 of said chapter 64 is amended by striking out Amends s. 136. the words "in which two or more schools have been united for the

purpose of establishing a central grading school" in the first, second,

and third lines of the section.

12. Section 152 of said chapter 64 is amended by striking out Amends s. 152. clause (j), and substituting therefor the following:

"(j.) Except as provided in section 153 in case of his resignation, to give at least thirty days' notice of his intention to resign to the Board of School Trustees, which period of notice shall terminate with the close of the school term; or in the case of rural school districts to give such notice as is herein before in this clause provided, or to give notice of his intention to resign to the Board of School Trustees within ten days after the close of the annual school meeting."

An Act to amend the "Shops Regulation Act."

IS MAJESTY, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of the Province of British Columbia, enacts as follows:

1922, c. 65.

1. This Act may be cited as the "Shops Regulation Act Amend- Short title. ment Act, 1923."

2. Section 3 of the "Shops Regulation Act," being chapter 211 Amends s. 3. of the "Revised Statutes of British Columbia, 1911," as re-enacted by section 2 of the "Shops Regulation Act Amendment Act, 1916," is amended by striking out the words "any premises wherein, under licence, liquor as defined by section 2 of the Municipal Act' is sold by retail for consumption on the premises, nor auction rooms in the eleventh, twelfth, and thirteenth lines of said section 3.

3. Said chapter 211 is amended by inserting therein the following Enacts s. 16A. as section 16A:-

"16A. Any Municipal Council may by by-law require that hawkers and peddlers shall not hawk, peddle, or sell any goods, chattels, or merchandise within the municipality during the time shops within. the municipality are closed by virtue of this Act or the Weekly Half-holiday Act.""

HEREAS it has been deemed expedient to revise and consoli- Preamble. date the public general Statutes of the Province, and a draft revision and consolidation has been made and printed under the directions of the Attorney-General, and has been laid before and examined by the Select Committee of the House on Statute Revision:

And whereas it is expedient to provide for the correction of any inaccuracies which may be found in the said draft revision and consolidation and for the incorporation of the public general Statutes which may be passed during the present session with said draft revision and consolidation, and for giving the force of law to the body of the Revised Statutes as so corrected, incorporated, revised, and consolidated:

Therefore, His Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of the Province of British Columbia, enacts as follows:

1. This Act may be cited as the "Revised Statutes Act, 1923."
