IS MAJESTY, by and with the advice and consent of the
Legislative Assembly of the Province of British Columbia,

enacts as follows:

1. This Act may be cited as the "Coroners Act Amendment Act, Short title. 1923."

Schedule.

2. The Fourth Schedule of the "Coroners Act," being chapter Amends Fourth 49 of the "Revised Statutes of British Columbia, 1911," as enacted by section 7 of the "Coroners Act Amendment Act, 1918," is amended by striking out the figures "4 00" in the third, ninth, and eleventh lines of that Schedule, and substituting therefor in each case the figures "7 00."

HEREAS the Dewdney Dyking District was formed under the Preamble.

provisions of the "Drainage, Dyking, and Irrigation Act"

and amending Acts, and the works executed thereunder:

And whereas the "Dewdney Dyking District Bonds Act" was enacted for the purposes set forth in such Act:

And whereas the owners of the lands within the Dewdney Dyking District are dissatisfied with the assessment roll of the District in respect to the benefits derived from the works, and allege that incorrect acreage is shown therein:

And whereas the owners and the bondholders are desirous of varying the charge created by the "Drainage, Dyking, and Irrigation Act" and amending Acts, the "Dewdney Dyking District Bonds Act," and the trust deed of the thirty-first day of March, 1918, and are desirous of substituting for said charge a first charge on and against each separate lot of land or portion thereof only, and so that each such separate lot shall bear its proportionate charge only of the bond indebtedness:

And whereas difficulties have arisen as to taxes levied on lands comprising roads, and which roads were made by reason of subdivisions of the lands, and also by reason of separate ownership of parts of such subdivisions:

And whereas the District is indebted to various persons and is unable to raise or obtain the moneys necessary to discharge such indebtedness, and is desirous of issuing fifth bonds wherewith to discharge the same:

And whereas large areas of lands have reverted to the Commissioners under the provisions of the " Dewdney Dyking District Bonds Act":

And whereas difficulties have arisen with respect to lands owned by the Soldier Settlement Board of Canada and certain of such lands

have reverted to the Commissioners, and the Commissioners are desirous of taking powers to convey such lands to the said Soldier Settlement Board upon payment of the proportionate part of the taxes owing in respect to such lands:

And whereas the owners of the lands are desirous of electing the Commissioners from year to year at the annual meeting of the District:

And whereas negotiations are pending between the Commissioners, the bondholders, and the creditors with a view to arriving at a settlement of the difficulties between them and for a settlement of the claims against the Commissioners:

Therefore, His Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of the Province of British Columbia, enacts as follows:

1. This Act may be cited as the "Dewdney Dyking District Act."

2. In this Act:

"Commissioners" means the Commissioners of the Dewdney Dyking District:

"District" means the Dewdney Dyking District and all lands included therein as shown on Plan Number 1693 registered in the Land Registry Office at New Westminster and as amended as to acreage by the assessment roll hereinafter provided for:

"Trustee" means the Prudential Trust Company, Limited, or other the Trustee for the time being of the bondholders pursuant to the "Drainage, Dyking, and Irrigation Act" and amending Acts, the "Dewdney Dyking District Bonds Act," and the trust deed of the thirty-first day of March, 1918.

3. The Commissioners are authorized to carry out any agreement to be arrived at between any owner and the bondholders as hereinafter mentioned.

4. The Commissioners are authorized to carry out any agreement to be arrived at between the Commissioners and the creditors of the District as hereinafter mentioned.

5. The Commissioners shall as soon as possible, and not later than the first day of April, 1924, prepare or cause to be prepared a new assessment roll, in duplicate, based upon the present assessment roll, but with such alterations as to acreage as they shall think fit, and such assessment roll shall contain the names and addresses of the owners of the lands within the District, and shall divide the lands into three or more classes according to the present value for agricultural purposes, and shall state the class into which each
