CHAPTER 49.

An Act to amend the "Societies Act."

[Assented to 19th December, 1925.]

IS MAJESTY, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of the Province of British Columbia, enacts as follows:

R.S.B.C. 1924, c. 236.

1. This Act may be cited as the "Societies Act Amendment Act, Short title. 1925."

2. (1.) Subsection (2) of section 3 of the "Societies Act," being Amends s. 3. chapter 236 of the "Revised Statutes of British Columbia, 1924," is amended by adding at the end the words "A society required to be licensed under the Insurance Act' shall not commence or carry on its operations unless it is licensed under and complies with that Act."

(2.) This section shall come into force on the first day of January, 1926.

3. Section 35 of said chapter 236 is amended by adding the follow- Amends s. 35. ing subsections:-

"(2.) Where a society or any member or creditor thereof is aggrieved by the society having been struck off the register, the Registrar may restore the society to the register on application to him in such form as he prescribes by the society, member, or creditor. The Registrar shall be satisfied that the society was at the time of the striking off in operation or that it is just that the society be restored to the register, and such returns and other information as the Registrar requires shall be filed with him, and the consent of the Attorney-General shall be necessary to the restoration of a society having the objects of a club.

"(3.) On compliance with such requirements the Registrar may restore the society to the register, and thereupon the society shall

be deemed to have continued in existence, as if it had not been struck off, without prejudice to the rights of parties acquired prior to the date on which the society is restored.

"(4.) If the application is not made within one year from the date on which the society was struck off, and another society has been incorporated under the same or similar name, the Registrar shall require the society to take a new name before it is restored.

"(5.) A society may be restored for a limited period or for carrying out a particular purpose, and after the expiration of that period or the execution of that purpose the society shall be again struck off the register by the Registrar."

4. Schedule C of said chapter 236 is amended by adding the following:

An Act to amend the "Strathcona Park Act."

IS MAJESTY, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of the Province of British Columbia, enacts as follows:

1. This Act may be cited as the "Strathcona Park Act Amendment Short title. Act, 1925."

2. The "Strathcona Park Act," being chapter 49 of the Statutes Amends s. 9. of 1911, is amended by striking out the figures "1918" in the eighth line of section 9, as enacted by section 2 of the "Strathcona Park Act Amendment Act, 1918," and substituting therefor the figures "1926."

An Act to amend the "Sumas Drainage, Dyking, and 1920, c. 87; 1923, Development District Act."

[Assented to 19th December, 1925.]

IS MAJESTY, by and with the advice and consent of the
Legislative Assembly of the Province of British Columbia,

enacts as follows:

c. 66.

1. This Act may be cited as the "Sumas Drainage, Dyking, and short title. Development District Act Amendment Act, 1925."

2. (1.) Section 3 of the "Sumas Drainage, Dyking, and Develop- Amends s. 3. ment District Act," being chapter 87 of the Statutes of 1920, is amended by striking out the words "therein described" in the fifth and sixth lines of subsection (1), and substituting therefor the words "shown on the plan and described in the description deposited therewith, together with the lands referred to in subsection (3)."

(2.) Said section 3 is further amended by adding thereto the following subsection:-

"(3.) Those certain lands (including the lands formerly comprising the bed of Sumas Lake) at one time vested in the Crown in the right of the Dominion, and since transferred to the Crown in the right of the Province by Order of the Governor-General in Council referred to in subsection (1) of section 9, shall for all purposes be deemed to be included in the new district, and to have been included therein from the date of the deposit of the plan referred to in subsection (1) of this section."

3. Section 9 of said chapter 87 is repealed, and the following four Re-enacts s. 9. sections are substituted therefor:
