HY MN BOOK.

CREATION AND PROVIDENCE.

HYMN 1.

[ocr errors]

S. M.
CONE, sound his praise abroad,

And hymns of glory sing ;
Jehovah is the mighty God,

The universal king.
2 He form the deeps unknown,

And gave the seas their bound,
The wat'ry worlds are all his own,

And all the solid ground.
3 Come, worship at his throne,

Come, bow before the Lord;
We are his work, and not our own,

He torm'd us by his word.
4 To-day attend his voice,

Nor dare provoke his rud!
Come, like the children of his choico,

And own your gracious God.

2.

C. M. Come, let us join the hosis above,

Now in our youngest days; Remember our Creator's love,

And lisp our Father's praiso. 2 His majesty will not despise,

The day of feeble things; Grateful the songs of children rise,

And please the King of kings. 3 He loves to be remembered thus,

And honoura for his grace;
Oat of the mouths of babes like us,

His wisdom perfects praise.
4 clory to God, and praisc, and pow'r,

Monour and thinks be given!
Children and cherubim adore
Th Lord of car:h and heaven,
3.

C. M. 41. Che Father! gracious Lord!

ind guardian of my days! Ta mercies let my heart record

songs of grateful praise. 2 In his first dawn, iny tender frame

1975 tky indulgent carc, Lony ere I could pronource thy name,

Or breathe the infant prayer.

[ocr errors]

3 Each rolling year now favours brought

From thy sxhaustless store;
But, ah! in vain my lab’ring thought

Would count thy mercies o'er.

4 While sweet reflection through my days

Thy bounteous hand would trace; Still dearer blessings claim any praisa.

The blessings of thy grace.
5 Yes, I adore thee, gracious Lord!

For favours more divine ;
That I have known thy sacred word,
Wigre all thy glories shine.
4.

C. M
How glorious is our heavenly king,

Who reigns above the sky!
How shall a child presume to sing

His dreadful majesty!
2 Not angels that stand round the Lord,

Can search his secret will;
But they perform his heavenly word,

And sing his praises still.

3 Then let me join this holy train,

And my firat offerings bring;
Th' eternal God will not disdain

To hear an infant sing.

4 My heart resolves, my tongue obeys,

And angels shall rejoice
To hear their mighty Maker's praiso
Sound from a feeble yoice.
5.

C. M.
I sing th' almighty power of God,

That made the mountains rise ;
That spread the lower soas abroad,

And built the lofty skies.
2 I sing the wisdom that ordain'd

The sun to rule the day;
The moon shines full at his command,

And all the stars obey.
3 There's not a plant or flower below

But makes thy glories known;
And clouds arise, and tempests blow

Dy order from thy tárone. 4 Lord, how thy wonders are display'd

Where'er I turn mine eye!
If I survey the ground I tread,
Or gaze upon the sky!
6.

C. M.
I sing the goodness of the Lord,

That fill'd the earth with fuod;
He form'd the creatures with his word,

And then pronounc'd them good.

2 Creatures (as num'rous as thoy be)

Are subject to thy care! Therc's not a place where we can flee

But God is present there. 3 In heav'n he shines with beams of love,

With wrath in hell beneath; 'Tig on his earth 1 stand or move,

And 'tis his air I breathe.
4 His hand is my perpetual guard,

He keeps me with his eye;
Why should I then forget the Lord,

Who is for ever nigh?

7.

S. M. The praises of my tongue,

I offer to the Lord, That I was taught and learn'd so young

To read his holy word.
2 That I am brought to know

The danger I am in,
By nature and by practice too,

A w:etched slave to sin.
3. Great God, this book of thine,

Informs me where to go
For grace to pardon all my sin,

And make me holy too.
