Various duties of bureau

5. (1) The bureau shall collect, assort, systematise and publish information and statistics relating to:

(a) employment, wages and hours of labour throughout the province;

(b) strikes or other labour difficulties;

(c) trades unions and labour organisations;

(d) the relations between capital and labour and other subjects connected with industrial problems;

(e) the commercial, industrial and sanitary conditions of employment;

(f) the natural resources of Saskatchewan and their industrial possibilities;

(g) such other matters as may be related to industrial development in the province.

(2) The bureau shall also provide facilities for finding employment and for the distribution of male and female labour throughout the province. 1910-11, c. 8, s. 3; 1918-19, c. 62, s. 1; amended.

6. It shall be the duty of the bureau and it shall have power to:

(a) establish and maintain one or more employment offices at such places within Saskatchewan as may be designated by the Lieutenant Governor in Council;

(b) put employers who want workpeople, and workpeople who want work within Saskatchewan, into communication with one another free of charge;

(c) cause to be made surveys of and inquiries into the natural resources of Saskatchewan to ascertain their extent and how the same may be best utilised in the extension of the industries of the province;

(d) inquire and report as to the establishment of new industries in Saskatchewan, in any case where by reason of the production of raw material for such industry, or the immigration of persons skilled in the particular industry, or other circumstances, it appears that such industry might be profitably carried on;

(e) co-operate with the federal labour exchange. 1918-19, c. 62, s. 2, amended.

7. The bureau shall administer the following Acts and Acts to be such other Acts as may be from time to time assigned by the Executive Council to the administration of the bureau:

(a) The Factories Act;

(b) The Building Trades Protection Act;

(c) An Act to provide for the Safety of Electrical
Workers;

(d) An Act respecting Employment Agencies;

(e) The Mines Act; and

(f) The Minimum Wage Act. New.

8. All references in statutes, in force when this Act References comes into operation, to the secretary of the bureau shall be construed as applying to the commissioner where such reference is not negatived by the context.

9. The following enactments are hereby repealed:

SHORT TITLE.

1. This Act may be cited as "The Optometry Act, Short 1920." 1910-11, c. 31, s. 1.

2. The practice of optometry is hereby defined to be "Practice the employment of any means other than drugs, medicine or surgery for the measurement of the powers of vision or the adaptation of lenses for the aid thereof. 1910-11, c. 31, s. 2; 1915, c. 43, s. 30.

(2) The council shall consist of not less than three nor Term of more than five members, and shall hold office for such length of time as may be determined by the Lieutenant Governor in Council. 1910-11, c. 31, s. 3.

4. The council shall meet at least once in each year and at such other times and at such places as it may deem necessary. Three members of the council shall constitute a quorum. 1910-11, c. 31, s. 5, in part.

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES.

7. The persons entitled to practise optometry in Saskatchewan shall be those who:

(a) at the time when this Act comes into operation, hold professional or nonprofessional certificates under any Act hitherto in force, and unexpired licenses; or

(b) obtain professional certificates and licenses in accordance with the provisions of this Act. 1910-11, c. 31, s. 6. in part; redrawn.

(1) Any person residing in Saskatchewan, of the full age of twenty-one years, who furnishes to the board or person authorised by the university of Saskatchewan to deal with the matter satisfactory evidence of:

(a) his age and moral character;

(b) his academic standing, which shall be equal to at least two years' work in a high school or other similar institution;

(c) having practised optometry for not less than two years under the supervision of a practising optometrist or served an apprenticeship satisfactory to such board or person;

shall be entitled, upon payment of the fee therefor, to take the examination prescribed by the university for candidates for a professional certificate.

(2) Every holder of a nonprofessional certificate shall be entitled to take the said examination upon payment of the fee therefor.

(3) The university of Saskatchewan may make regulations concerning such examination and the conduct thereof.

(4) Every candidate who produces to the registrar of the council satisfactory evidence that he has passed the said examination shall be entitled to receive a professional certificate, upon payment of the prescribed fee. 1910-11, e, 31, s. 6 (par. 2), and s. 8, amended.

9.-(1) Every person otherwise entitled to practise optometry shall before doing so obtain from the registrar a license authorising the holder thereof to practise until the first day of July following.

(2) Every person who receives a license shall annually, on or before the fifteenth day of June, apply to the registrar for a renewal thereof, and such renewal shall
