CHAPTER 73

An Act to amend An Act respecting the Saskatchewan Registered Nurses' Association.

[Assented to February 4, 1920.]

IS Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the
Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan, enacts as

follows:

1. Chapter 28 of the statutes of 1917, being "An Act respecting the Saskatchewan Registered Nurses' Association," is amended in the manner hereinafter set forth.

2. The following is inserted immediately after section 3: New "3a. (1) The association may also pass bylaws Nursing not inconsistent with this Act for:

(a) the education, training and supervision of a
class of women to be known as nursing house-
keepers;

(b) the registration of those who have completed the
ordained course of study, passed the necessary
examinations, and met satisfactorily such other
tests as may be prescribed.

"(2) Such bylaws shall become effective only upon receiving the approval of the senate of the university of Saskatchewan.

"(3) Candidates for registration as nursing housekeepers shall be trained in such hospitals open to government inspection and receiving government aid as do not conduct nursing classes.

"(4) The course of instruction shall extend over at least one year and may include a term of training at the provincial sanatorium at Fort Qu'Appelle.

"(5) Instruction shall be given in the following. subjects:

(a) care of obstetrical cases;

(b) care of infants and young children;

(c) dietetics;

(d) general housekeeping;

(e) elementary nursing;

(f) care and prevention of tuberculosis.

(6) The university of Saskatchewan may appoint a qualified nurse as supervisor of the women in training. Such supervisor shall regularly inspect all training schools for nursing housekeepers, shall exercise such powers in connection with the training and discipline of the students as may be assigned to her by bylaw, and shall report to the board of governors of the university to whom she shall be responsible.

"(7) The university shall conduct the examinations of the candidates for registration as nursing housekeepers, and shall furnish certificates to those who have successfully passed the examinations, and have otherwise proved themselves qualified."

CHAPTER 74

An Act to amend The Mothers' Pensions Act.

IS Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the
Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan, enacts as

follows:

section 2

1. Section 2 of The Mothers' Pensions Act, being New chapter 68 of the statutes of 1917 (second session), is repealed and the following substituted therefor:

"2. The Lieutenant Governor in Council may set Lieutenant aside during each fiscal year out of the consolidated Council may fund of the province such sum or sums, not to exceed moneys in the whole the amount voted for that purpose by the Legislature, to provide support or partial support for any mother who is a widow, or whose husband is either an inmate of an institution for incurables or for the feebleminded or insane or is permanently incapacitated by incurable disease, feebleness of mind or insanity, and who on account of poverty is unable to take proper care of her child or children and who is otherwise a proper person to have the custody of such child or children."
