II. And be it further enacted by the authority aforesaid, That from and after the passing of this Act it shall and may be lawful for His Majesty's Receiver General of this Province to raise by loan, such a sum, not exceeding Fifty-five Thousand Pounds, from any person or persons, bodies Politic or Corporate, who may be willing to advance the same upon the Debentures authorized to be issued by virtue of this Act, at a rate of Interest not exceeding Four per Centum per annum, payable half yearly, as shall, together with the monies already appropriated for that purpose, be sufficient to pay the sum of Fifty-seven Thousand, Four Hundred and Twelve Pounds, Ten Shillings, Sterling, towards the liquidation of the said claims.

III. And be it further enacted by the authority aforesaid, That it shall and may be lawful for the Receiver General of this Province for the time exceeding £55,000. being, to cause any number of Debentures to be made out for any sum or sums of money, not exceeding in the whole the said sum of Fifty-five Thousand Pounds, as any person or persons, Bodies Politic or Corporate, shall agree to advance on the credit of the said Debentures, which Debentures shall be prepared and made out in such method and form as His Majesty's Receiver General of this Province for the time being shall think most safe and convenient, and that for each loan or advance a Debenture shall issue, bearing date on the day on which the same shall be actually issued, expressed to be for the payment of Fifty-five Thousand Pounds, or such part thereof as may be actually received, and redeemable at the expiration of twenty years, and signed by the Receiver General of this Province for the time being.

IV. And be it further enacted by the authority aforesaid, That all in 7 Geo. 4, ch. 20, and every the provisions contained in a certain Act of the Parliament of this Province, passed in the seventh year of Ilis late Majesty's Reign, entitled "An Act to authorize the Government to borrow a certain sum of money, upon Debentures, to be loaned to the Welland Canal Company," respecting the Debentures authorized by the said Act passing current with Public Accountants; the payment of Interest on the same by such Accountants, and the suspension of Interest in certain cases; the submitting to the Legislature accounts of such Debentures; the paying off and cancelling the said Debentures; and the punishment awarded for forging any of the said Debentures, or for any thing relating thereto, shall apply to and be in force in respect to the Debentures which shall be issued under the authority of this Act.

V. And be it further enacted by the authority aforesaid, That all monies required to be paid by virtue of this Act shall be paid by the

Receiver General of this Province, in discharge of any such Warrant or Monies how paid and
Warrants as shall for that purpose be issued by the Governor, Lieutenant accounted for.
Governor, or person Administering the Government of this Province for
the time being, through the Lords Commissioners of His Majesty's
Treasury for the time being, in such manner and form as His Majesty,
His Heirs and Successors, shall be graciously pleased to direct.

CHAP. XXVII.

AN ACT to afford further Relief to the Snfferers who sustained Loss during the late War with the United States of America.

[Passed 13th February, 1833.]

MOST GRACIOUS SOVEREIGN.

WHEREAS a Bill hath passed the House of Assembly of this Pro-
vince and been transmitted to the Legislative Council for its concurrence
during the present Session of the Legislature, entitied "An Act to repeal Preamble.
certain parts of an Act passed in the eleventh year of the Reign of His
late Majesty, entitled 'An Act for the relief of the Sufferers who sustained
loss during the late War with the United States of America,"" and also
of a certain other Act passed in the same year, entitled "An Act to
authorise the Receiver General of the Province to raise by Debentures,
on the credit of certain Duties therein mentioned, a sum of money for the
relief of the Sufferers during the late War with the United States, and
for affording further relief to the said Sufferers," authorising the Gover-
nor, Lieutenant Governor, or Person Administering the Government of
this Province, for the time being, to direct the Receiver General of this
Province to raise by loan the sum of Fifty-five Thousand Pounds, at a
rate of interest not exceeding four per centum per annum, to be applied
to the payment of losses sustained by certain Inhabitants of this Province
during the late War with the United States of America: and whereas,
after applying the said sum of fifty-five thousand Pounds, and the sum
of five thousand five hundred Pounds arising from the duties on Salt and
Whiskey, now in the hands of the Receiver General, and heretofore
appropriated towards the payment of the said claims, there will still
remain a balance of three thousand, two hundred and ninety-one Pounds,
thirteen Shillings, and four Pence unprovided for, to make up the sum
of fifty-seven thousand, four hundred and twelve Pounds, ten Shillings,

Sterling, required by the Despatch of Earl Bathurst, His Majesty's Principal Secretary of State for the Colonies, to be raised exclusively upon the credit of this Province, before His Majesty's Government would make any further payment on account of the said losses; which sum of three thousand, two hundred and ninety-one Pounds, thirteen Shillings, and four Pence, Provincial Currency, it is therefore expedient should be raised by loan and granted to His Majesty to make up the said deficiency: and whereas, it is also doubtful whether the before mentioned sum of fifty-five thousand Pounds could be borrowed in the Province, at so low a rate of interest' as four per centum payable in this Province: Be it therefore enacted by the King's Most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council and Assembly of the Province of Upper Canada, constituted and assembled by virtue of and under the authority of an Act passed in the Parliament of Great Britain, entitled "An Act to repeal certain parts of an Act passed in the fourteenth year of His Majesty's Reign, entitled 'An Act for making more effectual provision for the Government of the Province of Quebec in North America, and to make further provision for the Government of the said Province,'" and by the authority of the same, That from and after the passing of this Act it shall and may be lawful for His Majesty's Receiver Further sum, not ex. II. And be it further enacted by the authority aforesaid, That the Interest growing due upon the said Debentures shall and may be Interest when and demandable in half yearly periods computing from the date thereof, and shall and may be paid on demand by the Receiver General of this Province, for the time being, who shall take receipts for the same from the parties respectively, and that the Governor, Lieutenant Governor, or Person Administering the Government of this Province, shall after the thirtieth day of June, and thirty-first day of December in each year, issue Warrants to the Receiver General for the payment of the amount of Interest that shall have been advanced according to the receipts to be by him taken as aforesaid.

V. And be it further enacted by the authority aforesaid, That all and

VI. CHAP. XXVIII.

AN ACT to repeal part of, and amend an Act passed in the Fiftyseventh year of the Reign of His late Majesty King George the Third, entitled "An Act to establish a Police in the Towns of York, Sandwich, and Amherstburgh."

[Passed 13th February, 1833.]

WHEREAS the Law now in force authorizing the Magistrates in the Town of York to raise by Assessment a sum not exceeding One Hundred Pounds, for Police purposes, as therein mentioned, is found, from the great increase of the said Town, insufficient:-Be it therefore enacted, by the King's Most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council and Assembly of the Province of Upper Canada, constituted and assembled by virtue of and under the authority of an Act passed in the Parliament of Great Britain, entitled "An Act to repeal certain parts of an Act passed in the fourteenth year of His Majesty's Reign, entitled An Act for making more effectual provision for the Government of the Province of Quebec in North America, and to make further provision for the Government of the said Province,'" and April in each year, by the authority of the same, That from and after the passing of this to raise by Assessment Act, it shall and may be lawful for the Magistrates of the Ilome Dis• sam not exceeding trict, or the major part of them, in Quarter Sessions assembled, in the month of April in each and every year, to raise by Assessment from the persons rated upon any Assessment for property in the said Town, a sum
