being the head corner-stone; Grant us so to be joined together in unity of spirit by their doctrine, that we may be made an holy temple acceptable unto thee, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. The Epistle. S. Jude 1. 1 J Ude the fervant of Jesus Chrift, and brother of James, to them that are fanctified by God the Father, and preserved in Jesus Christ, and called: Mercy unto you, and peace, and love be multiplied. Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common falvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you, that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the faints. For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation; ungodly men turning the grace of our God into lafcivioufness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Chrift. I will therefore put you in remembrance, though ye once knew his, how that the Lord having faved the people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed them that believed not. And the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, he hath referved in everlasting chains under darknefs, untothe judgment of the great day. Even as Sodom and Gomorrha, and the cities about them, in like manner giving themselves over to fornication, and going after strange flesh, are fet forth for an example, fuffering the vengeanceof eternal fire. Likewise also these filthy dreamers defile the flesh, despise dominion, and speak evil of dignities. T The Gospel. S. John 15. 17. Hefe things I command you, that ye love one another. * If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you. ou. If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you. Remember the word that I faid unto you, The servant is not greater than the Lord: if they have perfecuted me, they will also perfecute you; if they have kept my saying, they will keep yours also. But all these things will they do unto you for my Names fake, because they know not him that fent me. If I had not come and spoken unto them they had not had fin: but now they have no cloke for their fin. He that hateth me, hateth my Father also. If I had not done among them the works which none other man did, they had not had fin; but now have they both seen, and hated both me and my Father. But this cometh to pass, that the word might be fulfilled that is written in their law, They hated me without a cause. But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me. And ye also shall bear witness, because ye have been with me from the beginning. + For there are certain Men crept in, &c. These were the Followers of Simon Magus and the Nicolaitans. Of the latter of which we are told that they allowed themselves in the practice of the most abominable lewdness: and of the former that he declared him felf to be God the Father to the Samaritans, and God the Son to the Jews thus denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Chrift. * If the World bate you, ye know, &c. The con fideration of our Lord's fufferings should be a motive to patience and refignation, rot only in the cafe of perfecution for conscience fake, but alfo in all worldly afflictions. Because, if he chearfully so endured fuch forrows for our fake, who was without blemish; howmuch reason have we to bear patiently the chaftiseents of Heaven when our fins have deserved far more than God is pleased to lay upon us. : Almighty God, All Saints Day. Of the tribe of Judah were fealed twelve thousand. * After this, I beheld, and lo, a great multitude which no man could number of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues, stood before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands: And cried with a loud voice, saying, Salvation to our God, which fitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb. And all the angels stood round about the throne, and about the elders, and the four beasts, and fell before the throne on their faces, and worshipped God, saying, Amen ; Blessing, and glory, and wisdom, and thankfgiving, and honour, and power, and might be unto our God for ever and ever.
