Elisa Seeen form
LATE FELLOW OF PEMBROKE COLLEGE, CAMBRIDGE ; AND CHAPLAIN
TO HIS GRACE THE DUKE OF RICHMOND.
PUBLISHED BY HERMAN HOOKER,
NORTHWEST CORNER OF FIFTH & CHESTNUT STREETS.
In selecting the life of the Prophet Elisha for the subject of the Author's annual lectures, he was chiefly influenced by the feeling that he had not yet commented upon the Scripture biography of a Prophet of the Most High. And if he were to make a selection from among these eminent servants of God, he knew of no one who possessed so many of the common sympathies of our nature, or whose actions and example might be more easily brought to bear upon the every day experience of the Christian, than those of Elisha. Had the Author been aware, however, that the same character had been selected by an eminent foreign divine, for the subject of a similar work, he should certainly not have persevered in his intention; but as the whole of his first course of lectures, except the last, end.
