OUR Conversation therefore, our Citi- 1 Phil.iii. zenship, our proper Country, is in Heaven. It remains only, that we take care to obey the Laws of That country; that we be not caft out as difobedient children, but walk worthy of God who hath called us unto his Kingdom and Glory. THESE are the Privileges to which men are admitted, by being Baptized into the Church of Chrift. As to Thofe among whom the Gospel of the Kingdom was never preached, concerning Them it belongs not to US to judge. To their own Master, they stand or fall. They are the Creatures

Anfw. They did promise and vow the things in my Name. First, that I should renounce the Devil and all his Wozks, the Pomps and Vanities of this wicked World, and all the finful Lufts of the Flech. Secondly, that I should believe all the Articles of the Christian Faith. And Thirdly, That I should keep God's holu Will and Commandments, and walk in the fame all the Days of my Life.

THE Truths to be believed, are, "The "Articles of the Chriftian Faith."

THE Good to be practifed, is, that we keep God's holy Will and Commandments, "and walk in the fame all the days of our "Lives.

I. THE Wickedness to be forfaken, is here reduced under Three Heads.

Devil and all his Works.

1. The 2. The Pomps

and Vanities of this wicked World. 3. All the finful Lufts of the Flesh.

1. WE are to renounce the Devil, and all his Works. And These in Scripture signify generally All Sin whatsoever: For 1Joh.iii.8 this purpose the Son of God was manifefted, that he might deftroy the Works of the Devil, that is, that he might root out Wickedness out of the World. The reason why All Sin and Wickedness is called the Work of the Devil, is because the Devil first finned from the Beginning, and first feduced men into Sin, and is the Head of Apoftacy, and delights in promoting Sin, and tempting men to it. But in This place, 'tis plain the Works of the Devil do not fignify All Sin in general, but Some Sorts of Sin in particular, diftinguished exprefsly from the Vanities of the World and from the Lufts of the Flesh.
