Pursuant to the provisions of the Constitution and laws of the State of Vermont, the Senate convened at the State House at Montpelier, on the first Wednesday, the second day of October, in the year of our Lord, 1912. At ten o'clock in the forenoon the Senate was called to order by His Honor, Leighton P. Slack, the President. Devotional exercises were conducted by Rev. Stanley F. Blomfield of Montpelier. The roll of the Senate was called and it appeared that the following named Senators were present, whereupon they were duly sworn by the Secretary and severally subscribed the oath of office: ADDISON COUNTY. Quinlan. ESSEX COUNTY. Porter H. Dale. FRANKLIN COUNTY. Elmer Johnson, Emmet McFeeters. GRAND ISLE COUNTY. James H. Dodds. LAMOILLE COUNTY. E. H. Sherwin. ORANGE COUNTY. Hale K. Darling. ORLEANS COUNTY. E. C. Blanchard, H. N. Davis. RUTLAND COUNTY. Newman K. Chaffee, Leonard F. Croft, William H. Dyer. William H. Preston. WASHINGTON COUNTY. E. B. House, Fred L. Laird, George W. Wallis. WINDHAM COUNTY. Frederick H. Babbitt, Herbert G. Barber. WINDSOR COUNTY. Herbert H. Blanchard, Don C. Pollard. Mr. Darling of Orange, moved that the Senate do now proceed to the election of a Secretary, President pro tempore, and Chaplain; Which was agreed to and the Senate thereupon proceeded to the election of a Secretary. On motion of Mr. McCuen, no other nomination being made, HOMER L. SKEELS of Ludlow, was unanimously elected vive voce, Secretary, and he presented himself at the bar of the Senate and received the oath of office. The Senate then proceeded to the election of a President pro tempore. Mr. Barber of Windham County, presented the name of Frederick H. Babbitt of Windham County, as a candidate for that office; And Mr. Blanchard of Orleans County, presented the name of Porter H. Dale of Essex County, as a candidate for the same office. More than one nomination having been made, election was taken by ballot, and the President appointed as tellers: Senator Barber of Windham, The ballots having been taken and examined it appeared that FREDERICK H. BABBITT of Windham County, had received a majority of all the votes cast, and was by the President declared elected President pro tempore. The Senate then proceeded to the election of a Chaplain. On motion of Mr. Blanchard of Windsor County, no other nominations being made, |
