III. The disposal of our Indulgences.

We may apply our Indulgences to ourselves, or we may in many cases apply them to the relief of the holy souls in purgatory. Those who embrace "The Heroic Act of Charity," by which they renounce for themselves and apply to the relief of the holy souls the merits of all their good works, have the privilege of likewise being able to apply to them all the Indulgences they gain. Even if our devotion does not lead us to follow this, we must be most careful never to forget the holy suffering souls.

Jesus, deliver us.

O Lord Jesus Christ, who hast said: Ask, and ye shall receive; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you; give, we beseech thee, to us who ask, the grace of thy most divine love, that with all our heart, words, and works, we may love thee, and never cease to praise thee.

Make us, O Lord, to have a perpetual fear and love of thy Holy Name; for thou never failest to govern those whom thou dost solidly establish in thy love. Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

PRAYERS FOR THE STATIONS;

OR, THE WAY OF THE CROSS.

(Most numerous Indulgences attached to this Devotion.)

The Priests and Acolyths, kneeling before the altar, say as follows:

O Jesus, our adorable Saviour, behold us prostrate at thy feet, imploring thy mercy for ourselves, and for the souls of all the faithful departed. Vouchsafe to apply to us the infinite merits of thy Passion, on which we are now about to meditate. Grant that while we trace this path of sighs and tears, our hearts may be so touched with contrition and repentance, that we may be ready to embrace with joy all the crosses, sufferings, and humiliations of this our life and pilgrimage.

V. Thou shalt open my lips, O Lord. R. And my mouth shall show forth thy praise.

V. O God, come to my assistance.
R. O Lord, make haste to help me.
V. Glory be, &c.

R. As it was, &c.
