"This is the only thing of the kind we have seen, and just what has long been wanted; a really good picture, with tablet, for first Communion and Confirmation. It contains a very fine figure of Our Lord vested in cope holding the Eucharist and standing under a rich canopy. At the base are two exquisite vignettes, one of the Last Supper and the other of the Descent of the Holy Ghost, besides being rich in illuminated monograms of the holy names in Greek and Latin. There is a very beautiful representation of the old monastic well of life, the five precious wounds, with antique Alpha and Omega. The texts contained in scrolls and ribbons suggest most suitable meditations upon the mystery of the Most Blessed Sacrament; they are as follows:-'He that eateth of this bread shall live for ever;' 'And the bread which I will give him is My Flesh for the life of the world;' This is My Body.' The 'O Sacred Banquet in which Christ is received, &c.,' forms the centre and chief inscription; the illuminated capital being filled up by representations of the chalice and host with grapes and wheat. Holy Mother of God, is not forgotten, being represented by fleur de lys running up one side of the ornamentation.

"The workmanship of this card is so fine that a copy of it has been sent to the exhibition at Vienna as a specimen of beautiful colour printing and engraving.

"The great difficulty in preparing a thing of this kind, was to have something that would satisfy and please the eye of the poorest first-communicant, and at the same time of such artistic merit as to be fit for the home of the most educated and refined, and this, we really think, has been well-accomplished. The price too, to our astonishment, places it within the reach of the very poor. We are sure that it will obtain a very large circulation."-Catholic Times, 21st June, 1873.

SPIRITUAL WORKS OF LOUIS OF BLOIS, Abbot of Liesse. Edited by the Rev. John Edward Bowden, of the Oratory. 3s. 6d.

"No more important or welcome addition could have been made to our English ascetical literature than this little book. The writings of Blosius are especially suited for popular reading. It is a model of good translation. Conscientiously faithful to the original, it is at the same time excellent English. The translator has succeeded even in transferring the sweet, earnest style of the author into our own language, without any trace of Latinism."-Dublin Review.
