Observe the force of the word "after,"-indefinite in its meaning, it leaves the question undetermined as to how soon after this period Christ was cut off. A space is thus left in the prophecy for THE WEEK here expressed (though unnoticed by Daniel) namely, "the cancelled or lost time of Messiah's rejection," which actually and historically, though not prophetically, was the SEVENTIETH WEEK reckoning from Nehemiah to the cutting off of Messiah.
