And dying, clasp thee in my arms,
The antidote of death. :

HYMN CLXII. C. M. [RIPPON'S COLL.I
Faith Reviving.

FROM whence this fear and unbelief?
Haft thou, O Father, put to grief
Thy fpotlefs Son for me?
And will the righteous judge of men,
Condemn me for that debt of fin,
Which, Lord, was charg'd on thee?
2 Complete atonement thou haft made,
And to the utmost farthing paid
Whate'er thy people ow'd;

How then can wrath on me take place
If fhelter'd in thy righteoufnefs,
And fprinkled with thy blood?

[ocr errors]

3 If thou haft my difcharge procur'd,
And freely in my room endur'd
The whole of wrath divine;
Payment, God cannot twice demand,
Firft, at my bleeding furety's hand,
And then again at mine.

4 Turn then, my foul, unto thy rest;
The merits of thy great High Prieft
Speak peace and liberty;
Truft in his efficacious blood;
Nor fear thy banifhment from God,
Since Jefus di'd for thee.

Prayer, for all Missionaries.

GR

REAT God, the nations of the earth Are by creation thine; And in thy works by all beheld, Thy radiant glories fhine.

2 But, Lord, thy greater love has fent
Thy gofpel to mankind,

Unveiling what rich stores of grace
Are treasur'd in thy mind.

3 Lord, when fhall thefe glad tidings spread The fpacious earth around? 'Till ev'ry tribe and ev'ry foul Shall hear the joyful found:

4

O when fhall Afric's fable fons
Enjoy the heav'nly word?
And vaffals long enflav'd become
The freemen of the Lord?

5 When shall th' untutor'd heathen tribes, A dark bewilder'd race,

Sit down at our Immanuel's feet,
And learn and feel his grace?

[ocr errors]

6 Smile, Lord, on each divine attempt,
To fpread the gofpel's rays;

And build on fin's demolish'd throne
The temples of thy praise !

HYMN CLXIV. s. M. [WINCHESTER'S COLL.]

Prayer, for the Jews.
ESSIAH, full of grace,
Redeem'd by thee, we plead

MESS

The promife made to Abram's race,
To fouls for ages dead.

2 Their bones as quite dri'd up,
Throughout the vale appear;

Cut off and loft, their last faint hope
To fee thy kingdom here.

3 Open their graves, and bring The outcafts forth, to own

4 To fave the race forlorn,
Thy glorious arm difplay:
And Thew the world a nation born,
A nation in a day!

Prayer, for the whole World.

FATH

'ATHER, is not thy promife pledg'd
To thine exalted Sun,

[RIPPON'S coll.

COLL.]

That through the nations of the earth
Thy word of life shall run?

"Afk, and I give the heathen lands
For thine inheritance,

And to the world's remotest shores
Thine empire fhall advance."

3 Haft thou not faid, the blinded Jews
Shall their Redeemer own?
While Gentiles to his ftandard croud,
And bow before his throne?

4 Are not all kingdoms, tribes, and tongues, Under the expanfe of heav'n,

To the dominion of thy Son,
Without exemption giv'n?

3

From Eaft to Weft, from north to fouth,
Then be his name ador'd!
Europe, with all her millions, shout
Hofannahs to the Lord!

6 Afia and Africa, refound
From fhore to fhore his fame;
And thou, America, in fongs,
Redeeming love proclaim!

HYMN CLXVI. P. M. [JOHN MURRAY.] At the opening of Worship.

1 FATHER, behold us here, According to thy word;

To worship without fear,
Our dear redeeming Lord;
O may thy light and truth now shine,
To warm each heart with love divine!

2 Drawn, wholly drawn, by thee,
To Jefus we are come,
And by thy teaching, we
Perceive our work is done ;
Through which a title we obtain

As Kings and Priefts, with thee, to reign.

peace,

3

We bless thee, God of
For life and glory giv'n,
To us and all the race,
Call'd up from earth to heav'n;

Haften great God, the day of love,
When ev'ry foul this grace fhall prove.

HYMN CLXVII. L. M. JAMES RELLY.]
Before Prayer.

1

I DEAR Shepherd, fee thy flock here met, Before thy pierced feet to bow;

To praife thy wounds, thy blood and fweat, Thro' which eternal love did flow. 2 Great mercies thou to us haft fhewn,

Since first we knew that we were thine:
Since first thou mark'd us for thy own,
With grace and righteousness divine.
3 Seal'd for thine own, we furely are;
Thy fpirit, Lord, our witnefs is:
Nor can we fall from Jefus far,
For he is love and tenderness.

4 There's none can pluck us from his hand,
Inclos'd by grace on ev'ry fide;
His oath, his promife firmly ftand,
We ever fhall with him abide !

5 He never will himself deny ;

Nor could he die for man in vain ;
How then hall God in wrath destroy,
The fouls for whom the Lamb was flain.

6 The countless price he paid for us,
Exempts us from the iron rod :

His life, his death, his blood and cross,
Hath reconcil'd us all to God.
