thedral; the chapter met in the Collegiate Library, and unanimously elected the Rev. J. Napleton, D.D. to represent them. After divine service, the beneficed clergy assembled in the Consistory Court, and the Rev. H. Morgan, D. D. having opened the meeting with an elegant address, stated that the Lord Bishop, recommended as proper persons to represent the dioeese, the Rev. G. D. Yates, L. L. D. and the Rev. G. Cope, D. D. whom the electors instantly honoured with their approbation, and they were accordingly chosen.

The Rev. James Barker, B. A. of Trinity College, Cambridge, is instituted to the Rectory of Newmarket, St. Mary, with the Vicarage of Wood Ditton annexed, on the presentation of the Duke of Rutland.

The Rev. Thomas Lloyd, M. A. Fellow of King's College, Cambridge, is presented by the Provost and Fellows of that Society, to the valuable Vicarage of Lewesden, in Northamptonshire, vacated by the

death of the Rev. James Goodwin.

The Rev. William Hardyman, B. D. Sen. Fellow of Emanuel Coollege, Cambridge, is presented by the Master and Fellows of that Society, to the Rectory of Great Luffenham, in the county of Rutland, vacated by the death of the Rev. William Affleck.

The Rov. Charles Mules, M. A. is instituted to the Vicarage of Pampisford, in the county of Cambridge, on the presentation of the Lord Chancellor.

The Rev. John Smythics, M. A. is instituted to the Rectory of Alpheton, in Suffolk, on the presentation of Mrs. Jane Strange Smythies. The same gentleman is also appointed Chaplain to the Countess of Mansfield.

The Rev. John Woodrow, M. A. late of Catharine Hall, Cambridge, and Minister of Ashton, near Warrington, Lancashire, is appointed

one of the domestic: Chaplains to Lord Galway.

The Rev. Alexander Cotton, M. A. is presented by his brother Sir Charles Cotton, Bart. to the Rectory of Girton, in the county of Cambridge, vacant by the death of the Rev. Thomas Fisher.....

The Rev. Henry Fitzroy, (commonly called Lord Henry Fitzroy) M. A. late of Trinity College, Cambridge, has been presented by the King to the place and dignity of a Prebendary of the Collegiate Church of St. Peter, Westminster, void by the death of the Rev. Sir Richard Cope, Bart. D. D.

The Rev. Henry William Champneys, M. A. has been presented by the king to the Vicarage of Welton, in the county and diocese of York, void by the resignation of the Rev. Nicholas Simon, the last incumbent.

At the house of Archdeacon Davies, in Brecknock, the Rev. Samuel Rogers, B. D. of Hucclecote, near Gloucester, Canon of St. David's, and Rector of Battesford, Gloucestershire. He was of Christ Church, Oxford, M. A. 1760, and B. D. 1786.

At Launceston, Cornwall, the Rev. Edmund Spettigue, full of years and good works, being in his 88th year. He was a man of the strictest integrity; and as a clergyman most exemplary, as he never failed doing his parochial duty but once, and that was owing to his being prevented by the overflowing

of a river.

Mr. John Strawbridge, of Bradford, in Wiltshire; he has left 4001, in the 3 per cents, for a charity school, and 1001, to the Salisbury infirmary.

At Grove-house, Hackney, in the 91st year of his age, Thomas Braidwood, Esq. formerly of Edinburgh, and eminently distinguished for the discovery of the successful practice of instructing the deaf and dumb,

Aged near 80, the venerable Bishop of St. Pol de Leon.

At Lanchester, Durham, the Rev. Joseph Walker, aged 47. His unfeigned piety, and unremitting attention to the discharge of his parochial duties, added to the friendliness of his disposition, and that affability and chearfulness of temper, for which he was remarkable, gained him the sincere esteem and affection of his parishioners.

At a very advanced age, Mrs.

Berney, relict of the late Rev. Mr. Berney, of Norwich. In her the poor have lost a constant and liberal benefactress, and the world an exemplary Christian. This charitable lady has bequeathed 2001. to the Norfolk and Norwich hospital; 2001, to the charity for clergymens' widows and orphans, in Norfolk and Norwich; 100, to the charity schools in that city; and 100l. to Addenbrooke's hospital, in Cambridge. Her remains were m◄ terred in the family vault at Kirby.

At Reading, the Rev. Henry Mead, formerly Lecturer of St. John's, Wapping, and for several years assistant preacher at St. Lawrence's Church in this town.

At Winboure, Dorsetshire, aged 72, the Rev. John Harbin, Rector of Hampreston. He was of Corpus Christi College, Oxford; L. L. B. 1792; and curate of St. Leonard, Shoreditch, He married a sister of Roger Coker, who resigned Winbourne to him in 1776. His son Edward is curate of Downton, Wilts.

At Woodbridge, in Suffolk, greatly lamented by all who knew him, the Rev. Joseph Gunning, Vicar of Sutton and of Spexlall, in the said county, and formerly of Corpus Christi College, Oxford.

At Edinburgh, Andrew Danzel, A. M. Professor of Greek in that University.

The Rev. Erasmus Warren, Minister of Hampstead, and Rector of Great Bromley, Essex. He was formerly of Trinity College. Cambridge, B. A. 1763; M. A. 1766.
