In claiming the support of the public for the sixth of his series of the Mauritius Almanac and Colonial Register, the Editor must first express his gratitude for the favor with which the five preceding issues have been received.

The present edition is substantially the same as the last one published, but all previous statements and statistical tables have been most carefully verified and brought down to the latest possible date.

The Index has been extended and is completed for the whole six years, and the Ordinances, Proclamations and Regulations passed during 1873 will be found among the contents of this issue.

The Editor has to record his grateful sense of the kindness of the Honorable the Colonial Secretary, late Officer Administering the Government, in having permitted him to embody in his work the Despatch to the Right Honorable the Secretary of State for the Colonies on the Position of Mauritius in 1872.

Once more the Editor has to tender his best thanks to the Heads and Officers of every Government Department, for the prompt and ready assistance they have afforded him.
