I will also give thee for a light to the Gentiles, that thou mayeft be my falvation unto the end of the earth.

7 Thus faith the Lord, the redeemer of Ifrael, and his Holy One, to him whom man despiseth, to him whom the nation abhorreth, to a fervant of rulers; Kings fhall fee and arife; princes alfo fhall worship, becaufe of the Lord that is faithful, and the Holy One of Ifrael, and he fhall choose thee.

8 Thus faith the Lord, In an acceptable time have I heard thee, and in a day of falvation have I helped thee: and I will preserve thee, and give thee for a covenant of the people, to establish the earth, to caufe to inherit the defolate heritages;

9 That thou mayeft fay to the prisoners, Go forth; to them that are in darknefs, Shew yourselves. They fhall feed in the ways, and their paftures fhall be in all high places.

high-ways fhall be exalted.

12 Behold, these shall come from far: and lo, these from the north and from the weft, and thefe from the land of Sinim.

13 Sing, O heavens, and be joyful, O earth, and break forth into finging, O mountains: for the Lord hath comforted his people, and will have mercy upo his afflicted.

14 But Zion faid, The Lord hath forfaken me, and my Lord hath forgotten me.

15 Can a woman forget her fucking child, that she fhould not have compaffion on the fon of her womb? yea, they may forget, yet will I not forget thee.

16 Behold, I have graven thee upon the palms of my hands, thy walls are continually before me.

17 Thy children shall make hafte; thy destroyers, and they that made thee wafte, fhall go forth of thee. 18 Lift up thine eyes 10 They fhall not hun-round about, and behold: ger nor thirst; neither fhall all these gather themselves the heat nor fun fmite them: together, and come to thee: for he that hath mercy on as I live, faith the Lord, thou them fhall lead them, even fhalt furely clothe thee with by the fprings of water shall them all, as with an ornahe guide them. ment, and bind them on thee as a bride doth.

II And I will make all my mountains a way, and my 8

defolate places, and the land of thy deftruction fhall even now be too narrow by reafon of the inhabitants, and they that fwallowed thee up fhall be far away.

20 The children which thou fhalt have, after thou haft loft the other, fhall fay again in thine ears, The place is too ftrait for me give place to me, that I may dwell.

21 Then fhalt thou fay in thine heart, Who hath begotten me thefe, feeing I have loft my children, and am defolate, a captive, and removing to and fro? and who hath brought up thefe? Behold, I was left alone, thefe, where had they been?

22 Thus faith the Lord God, Behold, I will lift up mine hand to the Gentiles, and fet up my standard to the people and they fhall bring thy fons in their arms, and thy daughters fhall be carried upon their fhoulders.

23 And kings fhall be thy nurfing-fathers, and their queens thy nurfing-mothers: they fhall bow down to thee with their face toward the earth, and lick up the duft of thy feet, and thou fhalt know that I am the Lord: for they fhall not be afhamed that wait for me.

24 Shall the prey be taken from the mighty, or the lawful captive delivered?

25 But thus faith the Lord, Even the captives of the mighty fhall be taken away, and the prey of the terrible fhall be delivered : for I will contend with him that contendeth with thee, and I will fave thy children.

26 And I will feed them that opprefs thee, with their own flesh, and they fhall be drunken with their own blood, as with fweet wine: and all flesh fhall know that I the Lord am thy faviour and thy redeemer, the mighty One of Jacob.

CHAP. LI. Earken to me, ye that follow after righteoufnefs, ye that feek the Lord: look unto the rock whence ye are hewn, and to the hole of the pit whence ye are digged.

2 Look unto Abraham your father, and unto Sarah that bare you; for I called him alone, and bleffed him, and increased him.

3 For the Lord fhall comfort Zion: he will comfort all her wafte places, and he will make her wilderness like Eden, and her defert like

4¶ Hearken unto me, my people; and give ear unto me, O my nation: for a law fhall proceed from me, and I will make my judgment to reft for a light of the people. 5 My righteoufnefs is near; my falvation is gone forth, and mine arms fhall judge the people: the ifles 1 Therefore the redeemfhall wait upon me, and oned of the Lord fhall return, mine arm fhall they truft. and come with finging unto

7 ¶ Hearken unto me, ye that know righteoufnefs, the people in whofe heart is my law; fear ye not the reproach of men, neither be ye afraid of their revilings.

12 I, even I am he that comforteth you: who art thou, that thou fhouldeft be afraid of a man that shall die, and of the fon of man which fhall be made as grass?

13 And forgetteft the Lord thy maker, that hath ftretched forth the heavens, and laid the foundation of the earth? and haft feared continually every day, becaufe of the fury of the oppreffor, as if he were ready to deftroy? and where is the fury of the oppreffor?

15 But I am the Lord thy God, that divided the fea, whofe waves roared: the Lord of hofts is his name.

16 And I have put my words in thy mouth, and I have covered thee in the fhadow of mine hand, that I may plant the heavens, and lay the foundations of the earth, and fay unto Zion, Thou art my people.

17 Awake, awake, ftand up, O Jerufalem, which haft drunk at the hand of the Lord the cup of his fury: thou haft drunken the dregs of the cup of trembling, and wrung them out.

21 ¶ Therefore hear now this, thou afflicted, and drunken, but not with wine.

22 Thus faith thy Lord, the Lord, and thy God, that pleadeth the caufe of his people, Behold, I have taken out of thine hand the cup of trembling, even the dregs of the cup of my fury; thou fhalt no more drink it again.

23 But I will put it into the hand of them that afflict

thee: which have faid to thy foul, Bow down, that we may go over: and thou haft laid thy body as the ground, and as the street to them that went over.

2 For he fhall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness and when we shall fee him, there is no beauty that we should defire him.

CHAP. LV. O, every one that thirfteth, come ye to the waters, and he that hath no money; come ye, buy and eat; yea come, buy wine and milk without money, and without price,

2 Wherefore do ye spend money for that which is not bread? and your labour for that which fatisfieth not? hearken diligently unto me, and eat ye that which is good, and let your foul delight itfelf in fatness.
