TO THE FIFTH EDITION.

In the present edition, the Author has added, in the body of the work, the subsequent enactments and cases for seven years, down to the end of the year 1876, so far as they seemed to fall within its scope, as indicated in the preface to the fourth edition. And in the ADDENDA will be found such of the enactments, and the cases reported down to August in the present year, as were not published in time for insertion in the body of the work, while passing through the press.
