IN preparing the present Edition for publication the Editors have continued the arrangement adopted in former editions of dealing with the various subjects in alphabetical order, making two principal divisions of Claims and Defences, and sub-dividing them into "Actions on Contracts" and "Actions for Wrongs." The precedents given as examples by the Rules of the Supreme Court, 1883, now in force, are more concise than those in the Schedule of the Judicature Act, 1875, avoid more rigidly the statement of immaterial matters, and approximate more nearly to the system of pleading which was in use when the third edition of this work was published. In consequence of this, the precedents of Statements of Claim in the present edition are, in form, somewhat more in accordance with those |
