cessful in the work of God, and in exalting my nature. Lord, turn my necessities into virtue, the works of nature into the works of grace, by making them orderly, regular, temperate, subordinate, and profitable to ends beyond their own proper efficacy. And let no pride or self-seeking, no covetousness or revenge, no impure mixture or unhandsome purposes, no little ends and low imaginations, pollute my spirit, and unhallow any of my words and actions but let my body be a servant of my spirit, and both body and spirit servants of Jesus; that doing all things for thy glory here, I may be partaker of thy glory hereafter.

Creator of all, I beseech thee let thy fatherly kindness be upon all that thou hast made. Have mercy upon all Jews, Turks, infidels, and heretics, and grant that none may deprive themselves of that happiness which Jesus Christ has purchased by his death. Bless the pious endeavors of all those tha strive to propagate the Gospel of Christ; and may its saving truths be received in all the world. Preserve thy Church in the midst of the dangers that surround it: purge it from all corruptions, and heal its divisions, that all Christian people may unite and love as becomes the disciples of Christ. Grant that all bishops and pastors may be careful to observe the sacred rites committed to their trust. -that godly discipline may be restored and countenanced that Christians may not content themselves with bare shadows of religion and piety, but

endeavor after that holiness without which no man can see the Lord :—that such as are in authority may govern with truth and justice; and that those whose duty it is to obey, may do it for conscience sake. Let all that sincerely seek the truth, be led by thy Holy Spirit: and to all such as are destitute of necessary instruction, vouchsafe a greater measure of thy grace. Support and comfort all that labor under trials and afflictions, all that suffer wrongfully; and by thy mighty grace succor all those that are tempted. Give unto all sinners a true sense of their unhappy state, and grace and strength to break their bonds. Visit with thy fatherly comforts, all such as are now in their last sickness, that they may omit nothing that is necessary to make their peace with thee. Be gracious to all those countries that are made desolate by the sword, `famine, pestilence, or persecution; and sanctify the miseries of this life to the everlasting benefit of all that suffer. Preserve this land from the miseries of war; this Church from persecution, and from all wild and dangerous errors; and this people from forgetting thee, their Lord and benefactor. Avert the judgments which we have justly deserved, and mercifully prevent the ruin that threatens us; and grant that we may ever be prepared for what thy providence shall bring forth.

Bless all persons and places to which thy providence has made me a debtor; - all who have been instrumental to my good, by their assistance, advice,

or example; and make me in my turn useful to others. Let none of those who cannot pray for themselves, and desire my prayers, want thy mercy; but defend, and comfort, and conduct them through this dangerous world, that we may meet in paradise, to praise our God for ever and ever. Enlighten the minds and pardon the sins, of all that err through simplicity. Let the wickedness of the wicked come to an end, but guide thou the just. Relieve and comfort all that are troubled in mind or conscience;-all that are in danger of falling into despair;—all that are in any dangerous error; all that are in prison, in slavery, or under persecution, for a righteous cause;—all that are in any distress whatever; that all may improve under their sufferings. Have mercy upon and reclaim all that are engaged in sinful courses, in youthful lusts, in unchristian quarrels, and in unrighteous lawsuits. Direct all that are in doubt, all that seek the truth.

O God, the Creator and Redeemer of all, have mercy upon all whom thou hast made and redeemed, for thy name's sake, and for thy promises sake. We ask and offer all, only in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Morning Prayer.

GLORY be to thee, O Lord, all glory be to thee, for the sleep which thou hast graciously given me this night: a seasonable recruit to the wastings, and a kind intermission to the labors, of this poor, weak, and wearied body.

And now, as thou hast added to the number of my days, that this and every day may be employed to the perfecting of holiness in thy fear, and sweetened with the comforts of health, of peace, and innocence-grant, O good Lord.

Grant that the angel of peace, the holy guide of thy children, the faithful guard set over their souls and bodies, may encamp round about me, and continually suggest to my mind such things as conduce to thy glory, and to my salvation.

Grant that all the sins, offences, and negligencies of my days already gone, may, by thy mercy, be freely pardoned, and entirely done away.

Grant that it may please thee to bless the world with prosperity and peace, but chiefly with such dispensations and providences, as thou knowest most expedient for the good of all our souls.

Finally, since this life must shortly have an end, that mine may be concluded with a truly Christian death, a death perfectly void of sin and shame; and (if such be thy good pleasure) as free from pain as may be, grant, O good Lord. But,

above all, as it is appointed unto all men once to die, and after that the judgment,—that I may appear with comfort, and find a favorable account, at the great and terrible tribunal of thy Son, Jesus Christ, who, I believe, shall come to be our Judge, grant, O good Lord, for thy dear Son's sake.

OTHER EJACULATIONS TO BE USED AS OPPORTUNITY
MAY OFFER.

Blot out, I pray thee, as a cloud, my transgressions, and as the thickness of the morning cloud my sins. Grant me to walk as a child of light, soberly, purely, and honestly, as in the day; and this day, in particular, O Lord, vouchsafe to keep me without sin, upholding me, when I am about to fall, and lifting me up, if I am down; that I may never be suffered to continue under any provocation, or temptation, nor to have my heart hardened through the deceitfulness of sin. Let my body also be safe under thy protection, and defend me under the shadow of thy wings from the snare of the hunter, and from the noisome pestilence, from the arrow that flieth by day, and from the sickness that destroyeth at noon.

Defend this day from all evil of mine, and preserve me from all the evil of this day. Suffer not my days to be consumed in vanity, nor my years in trouble; but let each tell and instruct another, by some useful improvement in knowledge, or practical virtue. Olet me hear thy loving-kindness
