WHEREAS it is expedient to amend the Brands Acts of
1881 and 1882, so as to include camels, goats, and pigs
within their provisions: Be it therefore enacted by His Excellency
the Governor of Western Australia and its Dependencies, by and
with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council thereof, as
follows:-

1. This Act may be cited as 'The Brands Act, 1881, Amendment Act, 1885.'

2. This Act shall come into force on the first day of January, 1886, hereinafter called the commencement of this Act.

3. From and after the commencement of this Act the word 'cattle' in the third section of 'The Brands Act, 1881,' shall include camels in addition to the animals in the said Act defined as cattle, and all the provisions of the said Act shall apply to camels in as full and ample a manner as if camels had been included by the said Act within the definition of the word 'cattle.'

4. From and after the commencement of this Act all the provisions of 'The Brands Act, 1881,' and 'The Brands Act, 1881, Amendment Act, 1882,' relating to earmarks for sheep shall apply to goats and pigs in as full and ample a manner as if the words 'goats and pigs' or the words 'goats or pigs,' as the context may require, were inserted after the word' sheep' in the said Acts.

5. All the forms set forth in the schedules to 'The Brands Act, 1881,' may be altered (if necessary) so as to make them applicable to camels, goats, or pigs.

An Act to explain The Superannuation Act.'

WHE

[Assented to 18th September, 1885.

THEREAS the word 'emoluments' occurring throughout The Superannuation Act' is liable to be misconstrued: Be it therefore enacted by His Excellency the Governor of Western Australia and its Dependencies, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council thereof, as follows:

1. The word 'emoluments,' wherever such word occurs in The Meaning of word Superannuation Act,' shall not be construed, taken, or held to include emoluments any table, forage, or travelling allowance, nor any income derived from the private practice by any officer of his calling, business, or profession. 2. This Act and 'The Superannuation Act' shall be read and con- This Act to be strued together as one Act.

An Act to authorise the Further Extension of the Eastern
Railway.
[Assented to 18th September, 1885.

HEREAS it is expedient to authorise the extension and main-
tenance of the Eastern Railway from York to Beverley: Be

it enacted by His Excellency the Governor of Western Australia and
its Dependencies, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative
Council thereof, as follows:-

1. This Act may be cited as 'The Eastern Railway Further Short title Extension Act, 1885.'

2. It shall be lawful to extend and maintain the Railway from York to Beverley, with all necessary, proper, and usual works and conveniences in connection therewith, in the line and upon the lands described in the Schedule to this Act.

Description of Line of Railway from York to Beverley

This line starts at a point 89m. 39c. 921. from Fremantle, being the Terminus of the 3rd Section, and in Loc. Y; thence going in a straight line bearing 177° 34' for 331.; thence by a curve of 30c. rad. to the left, the chord of which bears 165° 30' 30", out of Loc. Y and into Loc. V, for a distance of 12c. 631.; thence by a straight line bearing 153° 27', crossing an uncleared road at 89m. 54c. 281., and terminating in a Cultivated Field, being part of Loc. V, for a distance of 4c. 201.; thence by a curve of 40c. rad. to the left, the chord of which bears 140° 28' 30", out of Cultivated Field, crossing a cleared road at 89m. 61c. 901., to and across Sub-division of Loc. V, crossing the boundary of York Townsite at 89m. 68c. 951., across an uncleared road, again through part of V, crossing an uncleared road at 89m. 73c. 501., and terminating in a Cultivated Field, being part of Loc. t, for a distance of 18c. 121.; thence by a straight line bearing 127° 30', out of Cultivated Field, crossing Bland's Brook at 89m. 79c. 271., through S. S. Parker's Cultivated Paddock, crossing an improved road at 90m. 7c. 531., and terminating in a partly cleared paddock and still in Loc. t, the distance being 73c. 171.; thence by a curve of 60c. rad. to the right, the chord of which bears 138° 23', out of partly improved paddock and into Cultivatea Paddock for 22c. 781. ; thence by a straight line bearing 149° 15', out of Cultivated Paddock, through unimproved land, being part of Loc. t, to and across Loc. U, and terminating in Loc. Y, for a distance of 2m. 29c. 821.; thence by a curve of 50c. rad. to the right, the chord of which bears 165° 30', for 28c. 361.; thence by a straight line bearing 181° 45', keeping within 4c. and almost parallel to the York-Beverley Road for 65c., out of Loc. Y and into Loc. Z, the distance of the line being 77c. 841.; thence by a curve of 60c. rad. to the left, the chord of which bears 172° 55', for 18c. 501.; thence by a straight line bearing 164° 5' for 53c. 31.; thence by a curve of 30c. rad. to the right, the chord of which bears 179° 29', into a Cultivated Field at 95m. 65c. 201., terminating at 16c. 121.; thence by a straight line bearing 194° 52′ for 1c. 411.; thence by a curve of 25c. rad. to the right, the chord of which bears 214° 26', out of Cultivated Field, the chainage at this point being 96m. Oc. 711.; still keeping in Loc. Z, the line runs along the York-Beverley Road for 3c. 501. at 96m. 8c. 501., and terminates at 17c. 71.; thence by a straight line bearing 233° 59' crossing a large brook at 96m. 31c. 771., and terminating on its bank, the distance being 20c. 301.; thence by a curve of 35c. rad. to the left, the chord of which bears 200° 57', for 40c. 361.; thence by a straight line bearing 167° 55', out of Loc. An Act to amend the Colonial Passengers Ordinances and
Acts.
[Assented to 18th September, 1885.

HEREAS it is expedient to amend the law relating to the carrying of Certificated Mates in Coasting Vessels, between certain ports and places within the Colony: Be it enacted by His Excellency the Governor of Western Australia and its Dependencies, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council thereof, as follows:

1. Every Colonial ship or vessel to which 'The Colonial Passengers Ordinance, 1861,' or the Acts amending, rectifying, or explaining the same are applicable, which shall carry passengers on any coasting voyage shall, in addition to a competent master and an efficient crew, also carry a mate possessing a mate's certificate from the Board of Trade, or, in the absence of such a certificate, a certificate from the Local Board as defined by the said Acts, unless and except such voyage shall be between Cape Naturaliste and the North-West Cape, or between Albany and Eucla, or between any intermediate ports between Cape Naturaliste and the North-West Cape, or Albany and Eucla, in which such excepted cases it shall not be necessary for such ship or vessel to carry a mate as aforesaid; Provided that such ship or vessel shall in other respects satisfy and conform to all the conditions required by the provisions of the said Acts.

2. Any master of such Colonial ship or vessel who shall go to sea Penalty for not carrying mates on any coasting voyage without having on board a mate holding a as required by certificate as aforesaid, and the owner or owners of any such ship or law vessel, unless such voyage shall be between the capes, ports, and places in the first section of this Act mentioned, shall be guilty of an offence, and shall for every such offence incur a penalty not exceeding Fifty pounds

Colonial Passengers Act-Amendment

3. The second section of The Colonial Passengers Ordinance section of 39 Vic., Amendment Act, 1875,' is hereby repealed; provided that this repeal shall not affect any liability incurred or the validity of any proceedings commenced or taken in respect of any offence committed before the commencement of this Act, but such liability may be enforced, and such proceedings may be carried on, as if this Act had not passed.

An Act to diminish the dangers resulting from Bush Fires. [Assented to 18th September, 1885.

THEREAS it is expedient to amend the law relating to Bush Fires Be it enacted by His Excellency the Governor of Western Australia and its Dependencies, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council thereof, as follows:

1. This Act may be cited as 'The Bush Fires Act, 1885.'

2. This Act shall come into force on the first day of December, 1885; but it shall be lawful for the Governor in Council, previously to this Act coming into force, to declare the times during which it shall be unlawful to set fire to the bush in any part of the Colony after the commencement of this Act.

3. The Ordinance No. 15 of 1847, intituled 'An Ordinance to diminish the dangers resulting from Bush Fires,' is hereby repealed; provided that this repeal shall not affect any liability incurred, or any right accrued, or the validity of any proceedings commenced or taken before the commencement of this Act, but such liability or right may be enforced, and such proceedings may be carried on, as if this Act had not passed.

4. In this Act the following words shall have the meanings respectively assigned to them, if not inconsistent with the context :'Bush' shall mean and include grass, stubble, scrub, bushes, trees, and all other vegetation.

'Prohibited times' shall mean the times of the year during which it shall have been declared by the Governor in
