Jesus, I may trust Thee, name of matchless worth,
Spoken by the angel at Thy wondrous birth;
Written and for ever on Thy cross of shame,
Sinners read and worship, trusting in Thy name.

Jesus, I must trust Thee, pondering Thy ways,
Full of love and mercy, all Thine earthly days;
Sinners gathered round Thee, lepers sought Thy face
None too vile or loathsome for a Saviour's grace.

Jesus, I can trust Thee, trust Thy written Word,
Though Thy voice of pity I have never heard,
When Thy Spirit teacheth to my taste how sweet,—
Only may I hearken, sitting at Thy feet.

Jesus, I do trust Thee, trust without a doubt, Whosoever cometh, Thou wilt not cast out; Faithful is Thy promise, precious is Thy blood, These my soul's salvation, Thou my Saviour God!

HOW TO FIND PEACE.

Her strength failed, and a lingering illness followed. But all was peace. She knew whom she had believed, and was not afraid when the summons came. After her death, a few words were found in her notes written in November, 1872, during a happy mission week.

'To-night I have sought my Saviour and laid my sins on Him. It is no presumption; I do not hesitate to write it here. He said: "Come unto Me, I am able and willing to

save you ;" and I have gone, sin-stained and guilty as I am, and not by my works but through His finished work I feel I am saved, for I trust him. Oh, I was anxious before but I sought to help myself. Now I see it is Jesus and He only who can

take, who has taken, upon Him my sins.' Then followed extracts from the mission sermons she had heard. From the full confidence in her Saviour which she then attained she never wavered. Thenceforth she lived, and continued till she died, trusting only in the precious name of Jesus.

There may be a message from the story of this young lady that may help those who desire to be at peace with God.

You are now anxious about your soul.” Perhaps a little while ago you cared only for the things of the world; but now it is otherwise. You see that one thing is needful. The sins of the past come back to your recollection, and you long to know that they are all forgiven. You wish to enjoy the comfort that the believer finds in the Word of God. You wish to have God as your Friend, and to be ready for death and judgment. You wish to be able to live a holy, consecrated life, and to do good to those around you.

What shall you do? How shall you gain this peace?

Remember that you must be saved and forgiven before you can truly live for God. I knew one who sought to be holy for twenty years, thinking that when she was holy enough God would forgive her. All those long years she had no true comfort. But at last she discovered her mistake. She trusted in Christ for pardon as a sinner, and then looked to Him to renew and sanctify her. Then she had peace.

Do not, then, wait until you have overcome your special temptation, or until you have made some progress before you go to the Saviour. Do not wait for more repentance. Repentance is a blessed grace, as well as an urgent duty; but you are not to stay from Christ because your repentance may be incomplete. This is only another reason why you should go to Him. He is 'exalted to give repentance and remission of sins.' When you turn away from sin and turn your face to God, you have it already. And as you look to Christ, He will give you more and more a spirit of contrition and brokenness of heart.

Your immediate duty, as well as privilege, is to go to Christ as you are. He has done

all the work needful for your salvation. He paid the debt of your sin. He suffered the penalty of a broken law. He bore your punishment, and died your death. And now He bids you come and put yourself into His hands. Commit your case entirely to Him. Put His death between you and your guilt. Plead His name, His merit, His blood, His mediation, as your only ground of hope before the mercyseat.

You say, Is Christ able to save one so sinful, so hard-hearted, so tempted as I am?' Surely He is. He is able to succour the tempted. He is able to save to the uttermost. He is able to make scarlet sins white as snow. He is able to take away the heart of stone, and to give a heart of flesh.

But, perhaps, you say, 'Is He willing to save me? Yes, He is much more than willing: He delights to save. It is His joy to rescue the lost and perishing. When the shepherd finds the lost sheep he rejoices over it, and bids his friends and neighbours rejoice with him. It is so with the Good Shepherd. When the sinner returns to Him, He sees of the travail of His soul, and is satisfied. He has won another trophy of His grace.

Ah, believe it, anxious, seeking soul, the
