APPOINTMENTS.

11. Every person entering the public service of Saskat-Time of probation of chewan within the meaning of this Act shall be subject to employees a probation of three months; and his employment shall cease at the end of that period from the date of his first employment unless at or before the end of that period the head signifies in writing that such person is considered by him as competent for the duty of that department; and if he is rejected the head of the department shall report to the Lieutenant Governor in Council the reasons for rejecting him. 1906, c. 5, s. 11..

14. SALARIES.

18. All employees in the public service of Saskatchewan, the clerk of the Legislative Assembly and the provincial auditor shall receive such salaries respectively as may be assigned to them by order in council and voted by the Legislature. 1906, c. 5, s. 18.

ORGANISATIONS.

19. The staff of each department shall be divided and rank as follows:

(a) The deputy head of the department;

(b) The chief clerk of each branch or bureau provided the department is so divided;

(c) Officials employed in professional or technical capacities who are not at the head of any branch or bureau;

(d) Clerks;

(e) Messengers. 1906, c. 5, s. 19.

20. The Lieutenant Governor in Council may from time to time divide any department into as many branches or bureaus as may appear most convenient for the service; and one of the clerks in such department may be appointed chief clerk of such branch or bureau. 1906, c. 5, s. 20.

21. As soon as conveniently may be after the passing of this Act the Lieutenant Governor in Council shall determine the number of officers or employees that are required for the working of each department and shall classify the same according to the arrangements so determined. 1906, c. 5, 8. 21.

22. Whenever it may be deemed necessary extra clerks or payment other officials may be employed in the inside division of the public service in any department as required; and such extra

clerks or officials may be paid out of the appropriation made for the general expenses of the department at a rate not exceeding two and one half dollars per diem unless such extra clerk or official be a person of special attainments and employed as such when he may be paid at a rate not exceeding the ordinary charge for such service:

23. 26. 28. The head of a department may at such times as may be convenient grant to each employee in the department leave of absence for recreation for any period not exceeding three weeks for each year of service; and the head of a department may (in case of illness or other pressing necessity) grant such extended leave not exceeding twelve months and on such terms as the Lieutenant Governor in Council may think fit. 1906, c. 5, s. 28.

29. The Lieutenant Governor in Council may make rules may be made and regulations for carrying the provisions of this Act into effect. 1906, c. 5, s. 29.

CHAPTER 8

An Act respecting the Department of the Attorney

General.

SHORT TITLE.

1. This Act may be cited as "The Attorney General's Act." Short title 1906, c. 7, s. 1.

2. There shall be a department of the public service of Organisation Saskatchewan to be called the department of the attorney general over which the member of the Executive Council appointed by the Lieutenant Governor under the seal of the province to discharge the functions of the attorney general for the time being shall preside; and the said attorney general shall ex officio be his Majesty's attorney general in and for Saskatchewan. 1906, c. 7, s. 2.

3. The duties of the attorney general shall be as follows:
(a) He shall be the official legal adviser of the Lieutenant
Governor and the legal member of the Executive
Council;

(b) He shall see that the administration of public affairs
is in accordance with law;

(c) He shall have the superintendence of all matters
connected with the administration of justice in the
province within the powers or jurisdiction of the
Legislature or Government of Saskatchewan;

(d) He shall advise upon the legislative acts and pro-
ceedings of the Legislature of Saskatchewan and
generally advise the Crown upon all matters of law
referred to him by the Crown;

(e) He shall be entrusted with the powers and charged
with the duties which belong to the attorney general
and solicitor general of England by law or usage
so far as the same powers and duties are applicable
to Saskatchewan and also with the powers and
duties which by the laws of Canada or of Saskat-
chewan belong or appertain to the attorney general
for Saskatchewan;

(f) He shall advise the heads of the several departments
of the Government upon all matters of law
connected with such departments respectively;
