REGULATIONS to be observed by the Nurses employed in the Care of Sick Prisoners of War.

HE Nurses are to take particular Care that Patients in a State of Convalescence are out of Bed at Eight o'Clock every Morning in the Summer Months, that they wash their Hands and Faces at a Table in the Ward, and have their Hair combed; that they have their Breakfasts, and that the Beds be made, and the Wards swept and cleaned before Half an Hour past Nine o'clock.

II.

Such Patients as are confined to Bed, are to have their Hair combed, and their Hands and Faces washed by the Nurses every Morning.

HI.

In Fever Wards, the Nurses are to offer Drink to the Patients every Hour or two, although they may not call for it.

IV.

After the Meals of the Patients, the Wards are to be carefully cleaned from Crumbs of Bread, or any Fragments of Provisions, and great Care is to be taken to prevent any Moisture remaining from spilling of Beer, or other Drink. No Remains of Provisions are to be kept on the Head of the Cradles, but they are to be removed to a Table at the End of the Ward, to be covered with a clean Cloth, and returned to the Men when they require them.

V.

All Close-stools, Bed-pans, or Chamber-pots, are to be emptied immediately after they are used, and cleaned under the Pump. Those in Fever and Dysentery Wards to be washed with hot Vinegar.

VI.

When it becomes necessary to wash the Wards, every Means must be used to have them dried in the shortest Time possible, as nothing is more prejudicial to the Health of the Patients than being in damp Apartments.

VII.

If the Phials, Bottles, or Gally-pots, are not returned by the Nurses into the Dispensary regularly every Morning, the Value of the Deficiencies will be charged against their Wages.

VIII.

Any Nurse conniving at the Introduction of strong Beer, Wine or Spirits, into the Wards, or not giving immediate Information of the same, will be instantly dismissed.

IX.

Nurses who get Drunk, neglect their Duty, or do not treat the Patients with Care, Tenderness, and Humanity, will be immediately discharged, and forfeit what Pay may be due to them.

X.

Nurses guilty of Theft or Peculation, or who connive thereat, and do not give immediate Information thereof, will be punished according to the Nature and Circumstances of the Offence.

XI.

Nurses who neglect any Part of the Duty required by the above Regulations, or are guilty of any of the Offences therein specified, will not only be dismissed immediately, but forfeit whatever Wages may be due to them.
