THE present number completes our first Volume of the ATHENEUM, and it will be gratifying indeed if our exertions to render it acceptable to its patrons, have succeeded; which, from the gradual increase of subscribers during the short time it has been under our care, we are induced to hope is the fact.

The price of the work is five dollars per annum; it is published semimonthly, in Nos. of 40 pages, large octavo, each, containing a greater quantity of matter than any periodical publication in the United States, at the same price. Its frequent circulation gives it a decided advantage over those published only monthly or quarterly.
