AN ACT to impose a Land Tax and an Income

Tax.

[Assented to 18th December, 1908.]

MOST GRACIOUS SOVEREIGN,

WE

TE, Your Majesty's most dutiful and loyal subjects, the Preamble. Legislative Assembly of Western Australia in Parliament assembled, towards raising the necessary supplies to defray Your Majesty's public expense, and making an addition to the public revenue, have freely and voluntarily resolved to give and grant unto Your Majesty the duties hereinafter mentioned, and do therefore most humbly beseech Your Majesty that it may be enacted: And be it therefore enacted by the King's Most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council and Legislative Assembly of Western Australia, in this present Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:

1. This Act may be cited as the Land Tax and Income Tax Short title. Act, 1908.

2. For the year ending the thirtieth day of June, one thousand Grant of Land Tax nine hundred and nine, there shall be charged, levied, collected, and Income Tax. and paid, for the use of His Majesty, under and subject to the

exemptions,

exemptions, deductions, and rebate enacted in the Land and Income Tax Assessment Act, 1907, and in manner therein prescribed-(a) a land tax at the rate of one penny for every pound sterling of the unimproved value, as assessed by or under the said Act, of all land chargeable with such tax; and

(b.) an income tax at the rate of fourpence for every pound sterling of the amount of all incomes as assessed under the said Act:

Provided that section fifty-six of the said Act shall not apply to the land and income tax to be levied and collected for the financial year ending thirtieth day of June, one thousand nine hundred and nine.

AN ACT to alter the Boundaries of the

Midland Junction Municipal District, by including therein portion of the Swan Road District.

[Assented to 16th January, 1909.]

E it enacted by the King's Most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council and Legislative Assembly of Western Australia, in this present Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:

1. The land described in the schedule to this Act is hereby Alteration of bounsevered from the Swan Road District and annexed to and included daries of Midland Junction Municipal within the municipal district of Midland Junction. and the district. boundaries of the said municipal district are hereby altered

accordingly.

2. (1.) All rates due and payable to the Swan Road Board at Apportionment of the commencement of this Act in respect of the said land shall. rates. notwithstanding this Act, be recoverable by the said board.

(2.) The Swan Road Board shall pay to the Municipality of Midland Junction a proportionate part of the rates received by the said Board for the year ending the thirtieth day of June, one thousand nine hundred and nine, in respect of the said land com

VII. puted from the passing of this Act, and the Council of the said Municipality shall apply the money so received as far as it extends in or towards payment of the municipal rates to become due and payable in respect of the said land for the financial year commencing the first day of November, one thousand nine hundred and . eight.

THE SCHEDULE.

The area bounded on the Northward by the Southern side of the York Road; on the Eastward by the Western side of Helena street; on the Southward by the Northern side of the Eastern Railway Reserve; and on the West by the production North of the Eastern side of Archer Street.

AN ACT to authorise the Construction of a Railway from Bridgetown to Wilgarrup.

[Assented to 16th January, 1909.]

E it enacted by the King's Most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council and Legislative Assembly of Western Australia, in this present Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:

1. This Act may be cited as the Bridgetown- Wilgarrup Railway Short title. Act, 1909.

2. It shall be lawful to construct and maintain a railway from Authority to Bridgetown to Wilgarrup with all necessary, proper, and usual struct. works and conveniences in connection therewith, along the line described in the Schedule to this Act.

3. Notwithstanding anything contained in the Public Works Deviation. Act, 1902, it shall be lawful for the Minister for Works to deviate from the line as described in such Schedule to the extent of three miles on either side thereof.
