CAP. 61; SHAW AND SONS, FETTER LANE, A NEW EDITION of this book having been called for within a year of the publication of the last, preparation was made for a compliance with the demand, and a large portion of these sheets was actually in type in the early part of the present year. Notice, however, having been given of a Bill for the "further Amendment of the Laws relating to Highways," the publication was delayed in order to admit of the introduction of such alterations as might be effected by it. To dovetail these into the text, and to reconcile enactments sometimes at variance with each other, has been a work attended with no inconsiderable trouble. To say the least of it, the recent statute (Highway Act, 1864) is not a very happy specimen of legislative skill and ability. Since this |
