CHAPTER 68.

An Act respecting the Edmonton, Dunvegan and
British Columbia Railway Company.

(Assented to April 2, 1927.)

WHEREAS, the shares of the issued capital of the Ed- Preamble

monton, Dunvegan and British Columbia Railway Company (hereinafter called "the Company") are lawfully and completely vested in the Minister of Railways and Telephones or his nominees; and

Whereas, it is estimated that it will be necessary to advance to the Company the sum of four hundred and sixteen thousand, one hundred and eighty-seven dollars and fifty cents to defray the cost of maintenance, improvement and upkeep and equipment of the railway of the Company;

Now, therefore, His Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Alberta, enacts as follows:

1. 2. Notwithstanding any other statutory provision, the Power of Company shall have power to borrow and give security for borrow, etc. any sums lent to it under the provisions of this Act.

3. The Lieutenant Governor in Council may lend all Terms of moneys hereinbefore provided for at such time or times, at such rate of interest, upon such security and upon such other terms not inconsistent with this Act as he may determine.

An Act respecting the Central Canada Railway

Company.

(Assented to April 2, 1927.)

HEREAS, the shares of the issued capital of the Cen- Preamble tral Canada Railway Company (hereinafter called "the Company") are lawfully and completely vested in the Minister of Railways and Telephones or his nominees; and

Whereas, it is estimated that it will be necessary to advance to the Company the sum of one hundred and fifty-two thousand, five hundred and eighty-two dollars and fifty cents to defray the cost of maintenance, upkeep and equipment of the railway of the Company;

Now, therefore, His Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Alberta, enacts as follows:

CHAPTER 70.

An Act to amend The Telephone and Telegraph Act. (Assented to April 2, 1927.)

HIS MAJESTY, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Alberta,

enacts as follows:

1. This Act may be cited as "The Telephone and Tele- Short title graph Act Amendment Act, 1927."

2. The Telephone and Telegraph Act, being chapter 49 Section 3 of the Revised Statutes of Alberta, 1922, is amended as to section 3, by adding as subsection (4) thereof, the following:

"(4) Subject to the provisions of The Public Utilities Power to Act, 1923, the Minister of Railways and Telephones, by his telephone lines surveyors, engineers, agents, workmen or servants, may construct, erect and maintain its line or lines of telephone along the sides of, or across, or under any public highways, streets, lanes, bridges or water-courses within the confines of any city, town, village or municipal district, whether the title to such highways, streets, lanes, bridges or water-courses is vested in such city, town, village, or municipal district, or in the Crown."

3. Section 7 of the said Act is hereby struck out.

5. Section 9 of the said Act is amended by striking out Section 9 the words "all funds remaining in the said fund" and inserting in lieu thereof the words "all funds remaining in the Depreciation and Renewal Reserve Trust Fund."

6. Section 10 of the said Act is amended as to subsection Section 10 (1) thereof by striking out the words "in public securities of the Province" and substituting therefor the words "in stock, debentures or securities of the Government of the Dominion of Canada or of any of the provinces of Canada or in any debentures or securities the payment of which is guaranteed by the Government of the Dominion of Canada, or of any of the provinces of Canada, or in debentures of any city, town, village, municipal district, school district or municipal hospital district in the Province."

7. This Act shall come into force on the day upon which it is assented to.
