CHAPTER 15. An Act to amend The Game Act. (Assented to April 2, 1927.) HIS MAJESTY, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Alberta, enacts as follows: 1. This Act may be cited as "The Game Act Amendment Short title Act, 1927." amended 2. Section 4 of The Game Act, being chapter 70 of the Section 4 Revised Statutes of Alberta, 1922, is amended (a) as to subsection (1), paragraph (c), by striking out the words "before the first day of October, one thousand nine hundred and twenty-five," and substituting therefor the words "at any time"; (b) as to subsection (4) thereof, by striking out the words "two dollars and fifty cents," and substituting therefor the words "five dollars"; and by striking out the words "twenty-five dollars," and substituting therefor the words "fifty dollars." 3. Section 5 of the said Act is amended- (i) by striking out of paragraph (c) thereof, the (ii) by adding as paragraph (cc) immediately after "(cc) any bird of the families Scolopacidae and Section 5 amended Closed season for partridge and prairie chicken Section 5а amended Section 6 amended (iii) as to paragraph (d), by striking out the word "pheasant" and adding at the end thereof the following proviso: "Provided, that no person shall hunt, trap, take, shoot at, wound or kill ruffed grouse, commonly called partridge, or sharptailed or pinnated grouse, commonly called prairie chicken, at any time"; (iv) by striking out paragraph (ƒ); (b) as to subsection (3)— (i) by striking out the words "of the family Tetraonidae" where they first occur; (ii) by adding after the words "in one season" where they first occur, the words "or more than fifteen geese in one day"; (iii) by striking out the words "birds of the family Phasianidae" and substituting therefor the words "European grey partridge, commonly called Hungarian partridge." 4. Section 5a of the said Act is amended (a) by striking out the words and figures "section 4 or section 5" and substituting therefor the words and figures "sections 4, 5 or 6"; (b) by adding after the word "game," the words "or fur-bearing animal." 5. Section 6 of the said Act is amended (a) as to subsection (1) thereof (i) by striking out of paragraph (a) the word "fox," and adding at the end thereof, the words "or any fox between the first day of March and the first day of November"; (ii) by striking out of paragraph (c) the words "any muskrat between the first day of May and the first day of December" and inserting in lieu thereof the words "any muskrat between the first day of May and the first day of March next following," and by adding at the end of the proviso to the said paragraph the following proviso: "Provided that in the section of the Province lying to the north of Township 90, the trapping of muskrats shall be prohibited between the fifteenth day of May and the first day of March next following." (iii) by striking out of paragraph (d) the words "one thousand nine hundred and twenty-five," and substituting therefor the words "one thousand nine hundred and thirty-five"; muskrats (b) by adding as subsection (6) thereof the following: Spearing of "(6) No person shall at any time, except under a special prohibited permit, spear any muskrat." 6. Sections 7a and 7b are added to the said Act, imme- Sections 7a diately after section 7, as follows: and 7b added "7a. The Lieutenant Governor in Council may authorize water and the Minister to enter into an agreement with the Dominion and leases Government for the lease of any Dominion lands and water Dominion areas in the Province, for the propagation of fur-bearing animals, and to sub-let such areas to approved applicants under regulations of the Lieutenant Governor in Council." added 7. Section 12a is added to the said Act, immediately after Section 12a section 12, as follows: "12a. No person shall at any time, use or set a snare for Snares the capture of any wild animal other than rabbits, except on land occupied by him, which is enclosed by a fence: "Provided, however, that the Lieutenant Governor in Council may authorize the use of snares for the capture of wild animals under such regulations, and subject to such restrictions, as he may otherwise prescribe." 8. Section 19 of the said Act is amended (a) by striking out subsections (2) and (3) and substituting therefor the following: Section 19 amended licenses "(2) The fees to be paid therefor shall be fifty dollars Fees for game for a license to hunt big game and game birds; five dollars for a license to hunt game birds; and fifty dollars for a license to trap fur-bearing animals. "(3) All such licenses shall expire on the thirty-first day of December next following the date of issue." Section 21 of the said Act is amended as to subsection Section 21 (2), by striking out the words "an affidavit sworn before a justice of the peace, or a commissioner for oaths, or a game guardian," and substituting therefor the following: "a statement signed by him and duly witnessed." Section 28 of the said Act is amended by adding as subsection (3) thereof, the following: "(3) No person shall allow his dog or dogs to run at large in any game preserve." 12. This Act shall come into force June 1st, 1927. HIS CHAPTER 16. An Act for the Payment of Wolf Bounty. (Assented to April 2, 1927.) IS MAJESTY, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Alberta, enacts as follows: SHORT TITLE. 1. This Act may be cited as "The Wolf Bounty Act." INTERPRETATION. Short title 2. In this Act, unless the context otherwise requires Interpretation (a) "Minister" shall mean the Minister of Agriculture; Minister (b) "Prairie wolf" shall mean a wolf of the species Prairie wolf known also as the coyote or brush wolf; (c) "Timber wolf" shall mean a wolf of the species Timber wolf known also as the grey or black wolf; (d) “Wolf pup" shall mean any prairie or timber wolf Wolf pup up to the first day of July of the year of its birth. 3. (1) The Minister may direct the payment out of the Payment of general revenue fund, of the following sums by way of bounty bounty, that is to say on the pelt of— (a) any male timber wolf other than a wolf pup, ten Amounts dollars; (b) any female timber wolf other than a wolf pup, twenty dollars; (c) any wolf pup, two dollars; (d) any prairie wolf killed between the thirtieth day of April and the first day of September in any year, two dollars. property (2) Upon the payment of bounty on the pelt of any prai- Pelts rie wolf or wolf pup, such pelt shall become the property of Province of the Government of Alberta. 4. The Minister may appoint inspectors to examine pelts Inspectors and perform such other duties as may be imposed upon them by this Act or by any rule or regulation made hereunder. |
