Heaven and earth are full of the majesty of thy glory.

The glorious choir of the Apostles: praise thee. The admirable company of the Prophets: praise thee.

The white-robed army of martyrs: praise thee.

The Holy Church throughout all the world: doth acknowledge thee.

The Father: of an infinite majesty.

Thy adorable, true: and only Son.

Also the Holy Ghost: the Comforter.

Thou art the King of Glory: O Christ.

Thou art the everlasting Son of the Father.

When thou tookest upon thee to deliver man: thou didst not abhor the Virgin's womb.

When thou hadst overcome the sting of death: thou didst open the kingdom of heaven to all believers.

Thou sittest at the right hand of God: in the glory of the Father.

We believe that thou shalt come: to be our Judge.

9 And thou, child, shalt be called the Prophet of the Highest: for thou shalt go before the face of the Lord to prepare his ways.

10 To give knowledge of salvation unto his people: for the remission of their sins.

11 Through the bowels of the mercy of our God: whereby the orient from on high hath visited us.

12 To enlighten them that sit in darkness, and in the shadow of death: to direct our feet into the way of peace. Glory, &c.

CREED OF ST. ATHANASIUS.

For there is one Person of the Father, another of the Son, another of the Holy Ghost.

But the Godhead of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost, is all one; the glory equal, the majesty co-eternal.

Such as the Father is, such is the Son, and such is the Holy Ghost.

The Father uncreate, the Son uncreate, the Holy Ghost uncreate.

The Father incomprehensible, the Son incomprehensible, the Holy Ghost incomprehensible.

The Father eternal, the Son eternal, the Holy Ghost eternal.

And yet they are not three eternals, but one eternal.

As also they are three uncreates, nor three incomprehensibles; but one uncreate, and one incomprehensible.

In like manner the Father is almighty, the Son almighty, and the Holy Ghost almighty.

And yet they are not three almighties, but one almighty.

So the Father is God, the Son God, and the Holy Ghost God.

And yet they are not three Gods, but one God.

So likewise the Father is Lord, the Son is Lord, and the Holy Ghost is Lord.

And yet they are not three Lords, but one Lord.

For like as we are compelled by the Christian verity to acknowledge every Person by himself to be God and Lord:

So we are forbidden by the Catholic religion, to say there are three Gods, or three Lords.

The Father is made of none, neither created, nor begotten.

The Son is from the Father alone, not made, nor created, but begotten.

The Holy Ghost is from the Father and the Son,

not made, nor created, nor begotten, but proceeding. So there is one Father, not three Fathers; one Son, not three Sons; one Iloly Ghost, not three Holy Ghosts.

And in this Trinity, there is nothing before or after, nothing greater or less; but the whole three Persons are coeternal together and coequal.

So that in all things, as is aforesaid, the Unity is to be worshipped in Trinity, and the Trinity in Unity.

He, therefore, that will be saved, must thus think of the Trinity.

Furthermore, it is necessary to everlasting salvation, that he also believe rightly the Incarnation of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Now the right faith is, that we believe and confess that our Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God, is both God and man.

He is God of the substance of his Father, begotten before the world; and he is man of the substance of his Mother, born in the world: Perfect God and perfect man; of reasonable soul and human flesh subsisting.

Equal to the Father ac

cording to his Godhead; and less than the Father according to his manhood.

Who, although he be both God and man, yet he is not two, but one Christ:

One, not by the conver"sion of the Godhead into flesh, but by the taking of the manhood unto God:

One altogether, not by confusion of substance, but by unity of person.

For as the reasonable soul and the flesh is one man, so God and man is one Christ.

Who suffered for our salvation, descended into hell, rose again the third day from the dead.

He ascended into heaven; he sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from whence he shall come to judge the living and the dead.

At whose coming all men shall rise again with their bodies, and shall give an account of their own works.

And they that have done good shall go into life everlasting; and they that have done evil, into everlasting fire.

This is the Catholic faith, which except a man believe faithfully and steadfastly, he cannot be saved. Glory, &c.
