28 THOU art my God, and I will praise TheeMy God, and I will exalt Thee!

29 Give praise unto JEHOVAH, for He is goodFor His loving-kindness endureth for ever.

PSALM CXIX.

1 HAPPY those, who are upright in the way—
Those, who walk in the law of JEHOVAH !
2 Happy those, who keep His testimonies-
Who seek Him, with their whole heart!
3 Yea, those, who do not practise evil,
But walk in His ways!

4 THOU hast enjoined Thine ordinances,
That they may be strictly kept.

5 O that my ways were so established, That I might keep Thy statutes!

6 Then shall I not be put to shame,

When I have regard to all Thy commandments.

7 I will praise Thee, with sincerity of heart, When I learn Thy righteous judgments.

8 THY statutes will I keep;

Do not Thou forsake me utterly!

9 By what means may a young man keep his path pure? By setting a guard over it, according to Thy word.

21 THOU rebukest wilful transgressors;

Cursed are those, who go astray from Thy commandments!

PSALM CXIX.

39 Remove from me the reproach, which I have dreaded; For Thy judgments are good.

40 Behold, I have longed after Thine ordinances,

Revive me, according to Thy mercy.

41 May Thy loving-kindness come unto me, O JEHOVAH !—

THY salvation, according to Thy promise!

42 Let me give an answer to him, who upbraideth me, For I place my trust in Thy word.

43 Do not entirely deprive me of a true answer,

For I wait in confidence for Thy judgments.

44 I will keep Thy law continually,

For ever and ever!

45 Let me walk in a wide place,

For I have sought out Thine ordinances.

46 I will speak of Thy testimonies before kings, And will not be ashamed.

47 I delight myself in Thy commandments,

Which I have loved.

219

48 I receive reverently Thy commandments, which I have loved, And I meditate upon Thy statutes.

49 Remember Thy promise unto Thy servant, Upon which Thou hast made me rest my hope.

50 This is my comfort in mine affliction; Truly, Thy promise reviveth me.

51 Presumptuous sinners have me greatly in derision; I will not swerve from Thy law.

52 I call to mind, O JEHOVAH! Thy judgments of old, And I am comforted.

42 give an answer-by referring to some manifestation of Thy interference in my behalf.

43 Do not &c.-Heb. do not snatch out of my mouth an answer of truth altogether.

45 walk in a wide place-i. e. not be brought into strait or difficulty. 48 I receive reverently-Heb. I raise my hands towards.

50 This the promise mentioned in the preceding verse.

53 A burning heat hath seized me, because of the wicked,

Who desert Thy law.

54 THY statutes have been my songs,

In the house of my sojourning.

55 By night, I call to mind Thy Name, O JEHOVAH !

And I will keep Thy law.

56 This is my portion;

That I will keep Thy statutes.

57 My portion, O JEHOVAH! I say,

Is to keep Thy precepts.

58 With my whole heart do I entreat Thy favour;

Be Thou gracious unto me, according to Thy promise.

59 I think upon my ways;

And turn my feet unto Thy testimonies.

60 I hasten, and delay not,

To keep Thy commandments.

61 The snares of the wicked surround me;

I will not forget Thy law.

62 At midnight I will arise,

To praise Thee, for Thy righteous judgments.

63 I am the companion of all, who reverence Thee,

Yea, of those, who keep Thine ordinances.

64 The earth is filled with Thy loving-kindness, O JEHOVAH! Teach me Thy statutes.

65 THOU hast dealt kindly toward Thy servant,

O JEHOVAH! according to Thy promise.

66 Teach me the excellency of understanding and knowledge, For I trust in Thy commandments.
