10 For the sake of David, Thy servant, Reject not the prayer of Thine anointed.

11 JEHOVAH hath sworn in truth unto David;

12

He will not depart therefrom:

"Of the fruit of thy body, will I set upon thy throne!

If thy children shall keep My covenant,

"And the testimony, which I shall teach them; "Their children also, for ever,

"Shall sit upon thy throne!"

13 Of a truth, JEHOVAH hath chosen Sion;

He hath desired her, for a habitation for Himself:

This is My resting-place for ever;

"Here will I dwell, for I have desired her.

I will surely bless her provisions;

"Her poor will I satisfy with bread;

16 "Her priests also will I clothe with salvation,

"And her pious worshippers shall sing aloud for joy.

17 "There will I cause the horn of David to flourish; "I will prepare a lamp for Mine anointed.

18 "His enemies will I clothe with shame;

"But upon himself, shall his crown shine brightly."

the LORD, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for he hath clothed me with the garments of salvation, he hath covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decketh himself with ornaments, and as a bride adorneth herself with her jewels." Isai. Lxi. 10. Compare also Ps. xxix. 2. Note 2.

10 Reject not the prayer-Heb. Turn not away Thy face. "O LORD God, turn not away the face of thine anointed remember the mercies of David thy servant." 2 Chron. vi. 42. 11 Of the fruit of thy body. i. e. Thy descendants.

:

16 Expressions similar to these are

recorded (2 Chron. vi. 41.) as having been used by Solomon, at the dedication of the temple.

17 the horn-Compare Ps. xviii. 2. Note.

a lamp-This is an emblem of splendour and prosperity (see Ps. xviii. 28). Allusion is also made to the lamp in the tabernacle, which was to be kept always burning (Exod. xxvii. 20.), and an assurance is thus given that the family of David would never be extinguished. In the Messiah, who was "made of the seed of David according to the flesh," were these promises, in their fullest extent, completed.

PSALM CXXXIII.

1 BEHOLD, how good, and how delightful it is,

For brethren to live in unity!

2 It is as the precious oil upon the head,

Which floweth down upon the beard-the beard of Aaron!— Which floweth down upon the hem of his garment!

3 It is as the dew upon Hermon

The dew, which cometh down upon the mountains of Sion! 4 For thereunto JEHOVAH ordaineth His blessing,

Even prosperity, for evermore.

PSALM CXXXIV.

1 BEHOLD, bless JEHOVAH, all ye servants of JEHOVAH!
Ye, who stand, by night, in the house of JEHOVAH !
2 Lift up your hands toward the holy place,

And bless ye JEHOVAH !

3 May JEHOVAH, Maker of heaven and earth, Bless thee, out of Sion!

PSALM CXXXV.

PSALM CXXXV.

1 PRAISE ye JEHOVAH!

Praise ye the Name of JEHOVAH !
Praise Him, ye servants, of JEHOVAH !
2 Ye, who stand in the house of JEHOVAH-
In the courts of the house of our God!

3 Praise ye JEHOVAH, for it is good!

JEHOVAH-hymn unto His Name, for it is delightful! 4 For JEHOVAH hath chosen Jacob for HimselfIsrael, as His own possession.

5 Truly, I acknowledge that JEHOVAH is great, And that our Lord is above all gods!

6 All things, which it pleaseth Him, JEHOVAH doeth,

In heaven and upon earth,

In the seas, yea, in all deeps.

7 HE causeth the clouds to rise from the ends of the earth;
He maketh both the lightnings, and the rain;
HE bringeth the wind out of His treasuries!

company thunder and lightning. "When he uttereth his voice, there is a multitude of waters in the heavens, and he causeth the vapours to ascend from the ends of the earth; he maketh lightnings with rain, and bringeth forth the wind out of his Jer. x. 13. Compare treasures." also Ps. xxix. 3. Note 2.

8 Who smote-(Praise ye Jehovah) who smote &c. The same words are to be supplied at the beginning of vv. 9 and 10.

PSALM CXXXV.

243

9 Who sent signs and wonders,

Into the midst of thee, O Egypt!

Against Pharaoh, and against all his servants!

10 Who smote great nations,
And slew mighty kings—
11 Sihon, king of the Amorites,
And Og, the king of Bashan,
And all the kings of Canaan;

12 And gave their land, as an inheritance-
An inheritance to Israel, His people!

13 O JEHOVAH! Thy Name endureth for ever;
THY memorial, O JEHOVAH! to all generations!
14 Truly, JEHOVAH maintaineth the cause of His people,
And hath compassion upon His servants.

15 The idols of the heathen are silver and gold

The work of men's hands!

16 They have mouths-and they speak not! They have eyes-and they see not!

17 They have ears-and they hear not,

Yea, there is no breath in their mouths! 18 Like unto them, are those, who make them—All, who put their trust in them.

19 O house of Israel, bless ye JEHOVAH ! O house of Aaron, bless ye JEHOVAH !

20 O house of Levi, bless ye JEHOVAH !

O ye, who reverence JEHOVAH, bless ye JEHOVAH !

21 Blessed out of Sion be JEHOVAH, Who inhabiteth Jerusalem!

Praise ye JEHOVAH !

9 his servants—the great officers of Pharaoh's kingdom.

10 Who smote-See Note ver. 8.

11 kings-Heb. kingdoms.

18 Like unto them-i. e. just as

irrational and senseless. Compare Ps. cxv. 4-8.

21 Blessed out of Sion &c.-i. e. May the holy city resound with the praises of Jehovah !
