GENERAL REGULATIONS.

Letters to pass by the Provincial Evening Mails can be posted at the Town Pillar Boxes, till 5 P.M.; at the District Offiees, viz.-126, High Holborn; 46, Essex-road, Islington; Church-street, Bethnal-green; Commercial-road East; 170, High-street, Borough; 17, York-place, Lambeth; 8, Buckingham-gate; Vere-street, Oxford-street; 28, Eversholt-street; and the Branch Offices at Lombard-street and Charingcross, till 6 P.M., or with fee of one penny, which must be paid by stamp affixed to the letter, till 6.45 P.M.; or, if bearing twopence extra in stamps, till 7.15; at the General Post Office, St. Martin's-le-Grand, till 6, or bearing one extra stamp, till 6.45; bearing two extra stamps, till 7.15; or bearing four extra stamps, till 7.30.

Newspapers can be posted at the same Offices till 5.30 P.M.; or at the General Post Office, St. Martin's-le-Grand, before 6 P.M.; or with a payment of one farthing with each till 7, with a payment of one halfpenny with each till 7.15, and with a payment of one penny till 7.30.

All Inland and London District Letters posted at the Receiving Houses must be prepaid by stamps. Letters posted at the windows of the Chief Office in St. Martin's-le-Grand, to the amount of £1 and upwards, brought by any one individual, may be prepaid by money up to 5 P.M., after which hour they must be either prepaid by stamps, or be sent unpaid. RATES OF POSTAGE.-All Inland Letters or Packets, including those from the Channel Isles, and the Isle of Man, if PREPAID, are subject to the following rates:-Not exceeding Half an Ounce ld, One Ounce 2d, One

Ounce and a Half 3d, Two Ounces 4d; and so on, one penny being charged for every additional half ounce. An Inland Letter to pass unpaid must not exceed four ounces. All above that weight must be prepaid either in money or by stamps. No Letter must exceed the dimensions of twenty-four inches in length, or one foot in breadth or depth.

Soldiers and Sailors can send and receive Letters not exceeding the weight of half-an-ounce, on their own private concerns only, while they are employed on her Majesty's Service, for one penny each, if such letters do not pass through a foreign country and incur a transit postage, subject to the following regulations:

1. The penny must be paid at the time the letter is put into the Post Office.

2. The name of the person, his Class or Description, and the name of the Ship or Regiment, Corps or Detachment to which he belongs, must be specified.

3. The Officer having the Command must sign his name, and specify the name of the Ship or Regiment, Corps or Detachment, he commands. The postage upon Soldiers' and Seamen's, &c., letters, received from abroad without the penny having been prepaid, is twopence in addition to the Ship Letter gratuity, if received by Private Ship.

By the prepayment of a fee of fourpence, any letter, newspaper, hook, or other packet on which the postage has been prepaid in stamps, may be registered to any place within the United Kingdom. Letters, newspapers, books, &c., may also be registered to a British Colony or to Italy, for a fee of sixpence. No newspaper, book, or other packet (except letters) addressed to a Foreign Country, except Italy, can be registered, and to some countries even letters cannot be registered.

Inland Letters and Newspapers are received at the following Railway Stations, from which the Mails are respectively despatched, on payment of a fee of 6d. with each, except as otherwise specified. This fee, as well as the postage, must be paid in stamps.
