CHAPTER 38.

An Act respecting the Two-Platoon System for the
Employees of Permanent Fire Departments.

(Assented to April 12, 1924.)

HIS MAJESTY, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Alberta,

enacts as follows:

1. This Act may be cited as "The Fire Departments Short title Two-Platoon Act."

2. Where in any city or town having a population of not Establishment less than 10,000 there is a permanent fire department, the of double officers and employees of which are regularly employed as system firemen and paid by the municipal corporation, it shall be the duty of the Chief, Superintendent or Commissioner, as the case may be, to divide the members of the said fire department into two platoons, who shall work according to one or other of the two following systems, namely:

No. 1 System-The said Chief of the fire department shall not keep a platoon on duty for more than twentyfour consecutive hours, after which the platoon working the twenty-four hours shall be allowed twenty-four consecutive hours off duty.

No. 2 System-One platoon shall work day work of ten consecutive hours while the other platoon works night work of fourteen consecutive hours, each platoon to alternate every seventh day from night work to day work and vice versa.

3. The provisions of this Act shall have effect notwith- Supersession standing any regulations or by-laws of a municipal corporation relating to a fire department, and shall work in conjunction with the Fire Department's Hours of Labor Act.

4. No deduction shall be made from the pay or the holi- Deductions days of the employees of a permanent fire department by forbidden reason only of the provisions of this Act applying to and being in force in the municipality.

5. Every Fire Chief, Superintendent, director or officer of every such fire department who requires or requests an

employee of the department to be on duty in violation of the provisions of sections 1 and 2 shall incur a penalty of not less than ten dollars nor more than one hundred dollars, subject to section 6.

6. Notwithstanding the other provisions of this Act, in case of a conflagration for the control of which the attendance of all officers and employees of the fire department is in the opinion of the Fire Chief necessary, the Fire Chief may require the attendance of all the officers and employees for work during the continuance of the conflagration.

7. This Act shall come into force one month after the day it is assented to.

CHAPTER 39.

An Act respecting the Village of Falher,

(Assented to April 12, 1924.)

WHEREAS the Village of Falher was, under the provisions of The Village Act, established by Ministerial Order of the Minister of Municipal Affairs dated September fifth, one thousand nine hundred and twenty-three;

And whereas in the proceedings precedent to such Order there were certain irregularities, that is to say, the petition seeking incorporation as a village was not in the form required by the Act and was not accompanied by a statutory declaration, nor did the area erected into a village contain the statutory number of separate buildings continuously occupied as required by section 7 of The Village Act;

And whereas it is expedient that the erection of such village be confirmed;

Now therefore, His Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Alberta, enacts as follows:

CHAPTER 40.

An Act respecting the Village of Provost.

(Assented to April 12, 1924.)

WHEREAS the Village of Provost was, under the provisions of The Village Act, established by Order in Council dated January 24th, 1910, and was made to consist of the south half of section 17 and the south-east quarter of section 18, in Township 39, Range 2, west of the Fourth Meridian:

And whereas, certain portions of section 17, Township, 39, Range 2, west of the Fourth Meridian were subdivided by Plan No. 3025 AF, and thereafter were treated as being within the boundaries of the said village and were assessed and taxed as if they were within the said village and for all purposes such portions have ever since been treated as if they were within the said village and have received considerable benefit therefrom;

Now therefore, His Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Alberta, enacts as follows:
