CEAG" 4-VOLT LAMP, BULL'S-EYE TYPE.

(3) Lantern of the bull's-eye type, securely riveted and soldered to the side of the case, provided with a screwed bezel and a plated and polished reflector.

(4) Switch. The light may be switched on and off after the lamp is locked by revolving the case whilst holding the cover,

(5) Accumulator of the standard "Ceag" type.

(6) Bulb of the miniature Edison screw type having a current consumption of 0.85 ampere.

(7) Lock: The cover is locked by means of a magnetic lock; the bezel is secured by means of a lead rivet passing through lugs riveted to the bezel and lantern.

Approval is subject to the further conditions:-
:-

(i) That the total weight of the lamp is not more than 6 lbs. 8 ozs. (ii) That the strength of material and attachments throughout the lamp is not less than in the samples submitted for Official test on 3rd February, 1928.

(iii) That the lamp shall be capable of maintaining a light of not less than 1.5 candle-power over an arc of 90 degrees in a horizontal plane.

(iv) That the lamp has been made at the Works of Ceag Limited, Queen's Road, Barnsley.

(v) That the integral parts of each lamp, as issued by the maker, namely, the case, cover, lantern, accumulator, and lamp-bulb, shall have marked upon them the name or distinguishing mark of the lamp; and that the case shall also bear the name of the maker.

(vi) That the lamp shall be used only for work of rescue or exploration in case of accident or other emergency, or by Officials.

(3) FEDERATION LAMP COMPANY (WM. MAURICE), STAR WORKS, SOUTH STREET, PARK, SHEFFIELD.

Federation Rescue Lamp No. 2 (For auxiliary purposes only). This lamp, the general design of which is shown in Plate 12, is intended for use as an auxiliary light only. It comprises the following essential

Farts:

(1) Case of drawn brass, celluloid-lined, containing circular positive and negative lead plates. The plates are retained in position within the case by an ebonite cover, fitted at the centre with concentric positive and negative contacts of brass. The case is provided with a squarethreaded screw ring for the attachment of the cover.

(2) Accumulator is similar to that fitted in the "Federation" Miners' Electric Hand Lamp.(a)

(3) Cover or lantern of brass, of the bull's-eye type, fitted with a square-threaded brass ring for attachment to the case. The cover is fitted with concentric spring plungers which make contact with the accumulator.

(4) Bulb, of the small Edison screw type, is protected by a lens, held in position by a screwed bezel which is locked in position from the inside of the cover by means of a screw engaging with recesses on the bezel. (5) Lock of the lead rivet type.

Approval is subject to the further conditions:

(i) That the total weight of the lamp is not more than 2 lbs. 14 ozs. (ii) That the strength of material and attachments throughout the lamp is not less than in the samples submitted for Official test on 17th December, 1926.

(iii) That the lamp shall be used by Officials only and then only in conjunction with another lamp of approved type (flame or electric) capable of giving the required candle-power for the required number of hours.

(iv) That the lamp has been made at the Star Works of the Federation Lamp Company (Wm. Maurice), South Street, Park, Sheffield.

(v) That the integral parts of each lamp as issued by the maker, namely, the case, accumulator, cover or lantern, and lampbulb, shall have marked upon them the name or distinguishing mark of the lamp; and that the case shall also bear the name of the maker.

"Federation" 4-volt Rescue Lamp.

This lamp is a modification of the Federation 4-volt Lamp(a) and differs therefrom only in the design of the cover or lantern, which is of the bull's-eye type.

The specification of the Federation 4-volt Lamp(a) applies with the following modifications:

(1) Cover or lantern made of brass and fitted with a square-threaded brass screw ring for attachment to the case. It is fitted with a lens, the bezel of which is locked by means of a screw inserted from inside the lantern.

(2) Bulb, of the Edison screw type, having a current consumption of 0.85 ampere.

Approval is subject to the further conditions:

:

(i) That the total weight of the lamp is not more than 7 lbs. 13 ozs. (ii) That the strength of material and attachments throughout the lamp is not less than in the sample submitted for Official test on the 7th July, 1927.

(iii) That the lamp shall be capable of maintaining a light of not less than 1.5 candle-power over an arc of 45 degrees in a horizontal plane for not less than 9 hours.

(iv) That the lamp has been made at the Star Works of the Federation Lamp Company (Wm. Maurice), South Street, Park, Sheffield.

(v) That the integral parts of each lamp as issued by the maker, namely, the case, accumulator, cover or lantern, and lampbulb, shall have marked upon them the name or distinguishing mark of the lamp; and that the case shall also bear the name of the maker.

(vi) That the lamp shall be used only for work of exploration in case of accident or other emergency, or by Officials.

(4) WILLIAM E. GRAY, 17 AND 19, ARCHER STREET. CAMDEN TOWN, LONDON, N.W.1.

"Gray-Sussmann" Torch.

This lamp, details of which are shown in Plate 13, is intended for use as an auxiliary light only. It comprises:

(1) Rectangular case of brass, to which is attached a hinged lantern containing a bulb, lens, reflector and flame-tight switch.

(2) Accumulator of the lead-acid type, giving 2 volts. The electrolyte is semi-solid.

(3) Hinged lock of the lead-rivet type.
