The system of the Gnostics, an attempt to solve the prob-
lem of the existence of evil, pp. 3-5. The solution
given by the principal sects twofold, namely, that the
Creator is an imperfect being, and that evil is inherent
in matter, p. 5. — Opinions respecting the Creator, pp.
