An Act to provide for the distribution of the Printed Copies of the Laws.

CHEREAS it is doubtful how far the Laws of Upper or Lower Canada res- Preamble.
pectively, concerning the custody and distribution of the Printed Acts of the Legislature of those Provinces, may be applicable to the Printed Acts of the Legisla- ture of Canada, and it is expedient to make better provision for the distribution of the Printed Acts of the Legislature, and for that purpose to repeal the Acts or Laws which may be now in force with regard to such distribution: Be it therefore enacted by the Queen's Most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and con- sent of the Legislative Council, and of the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Canada, constituted and assembled by virtue of and under the authority of an Act passed in the Parliament of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, and intituled, An Act to Re-unite the Provinces of Upper and Lower Canada, and for the Government of Canada, and it is hereby enacted by the authority of the same, That the Act of the Legislature of the late Province of Lower Canada, passed in the second year of the Reign of His late Majesty King William the Fourth, and a Will. 4. cap. intituled, An Acl to repeal a certain Act therein mentioned, and to provide for the 33. more certain and c.opelitious distribution of the Printed Acts of the Legislature of this Province ; and the third section of the Act of the said Legislature, passed in the thirty-fourth year of the Reign of His Majesty King George the Third, and intituled, Sect. 3 of Act An Act to provide for the publication of certain Laws, and for the printing and dis- of l. 6.34

much of any other Act or Law in force in this Province, as may relate to the cus- tody or distribution of the Printed Acts of the Legislature, or to the Adininistra- tive Bodies, Officers, or persons who are to receive copies thereof at the expense of the Province, shall be, and the said Acts or provisions of Law are hereby re- pealed : Provided always, that the repeal thereof shall not revive any Act or pro-

III. And be it enacted, That Her Majesty's Printer, from time to time hereaf- ter, shall, immediately after the close of each Session of the Provincial Parliament, or so soon after as may be practicable, deliver or transmit by Post, or otherwise, in the most economical mode, the proper number of printed copies of the Acts of the Legislature of the said Province in the English language or French language, or both languages, to be printed by him at the public expense, to the parties here.

directed by any joint Resolution of the said Houses, or in default of such Resolu. tion, in such numbers as shall be directed by any Order of the Governor in Coun- cil,—to such Public Departments, Administrative Bodies and Officers, throughout
the Province, as may be specified in any order to be for that purpose made from Proviso, as to tiine to time by the Governor in Council: Provided, nevertheless, in case any Bill Bills sanction. or Bills shall receive the Royal assent during and before the termination or any
Session of the Provincial Parliament, Her Majesty's Printer shall, on inimation to that effect from the Secretary of the Province, cause distribution to be made of such number of copies thereof, to the same parties, and in like manner as is here- inbefore provided, in regard to the Act or Acts of any Session of the Provincial Parliament; any thing hereinbefore contained to the contrary notwithstanding.

IV. And be it enacted, That the Secretary of the said Province shall, within fifteen days after the close of each Session of the Provincial l’arliament, transmit to Her Majesty's Printer a list of all the Public Departments, Adininistrative Bodies
and
and Officers to whom such copies are to be transmitted as aforesaid, and shall copies of oralso, from time to time, as occasion may require, furnish him with copies of all cil. Orders in Council made, under the provisions of this Act.
V. And be it enacted, That if after the distribution of the said Printed Acts as Distribution aforesaid, any copies shall remain in the hands of Her Majesty's Printer, it shall of copies rebe lawful for him to deliver any number thereof to any person or persons to whom hand provided, he may be authorized to deliver the same by order of the Governor, on notice thereof by the Secretary of the Province, or to the Members of the Legislative Council or of the Legislative Assembly, on the order of the Speaker of the said Houses respectively.
VI. , to the end that provision may be made for defraying the same, after such account shall have been duly audited and allowed.
