DEGREES IN ENGINEERING

ORDINANCE XXVII (XI)

1. The degrees in the Faculty shall be :— Bachelor of Engineering [B.Eng.] Master of Engineering [M.Eng.]

Doctor of Engineering [D.Eng.]

2. Candidates for the degree of Bachelor of Engineering must furnish certificates of attendance upon approved courses of study during each of three sessions subsequent to passing the Matriculation

examination.

3. No course of study will be approved which involves an average attendance upon less than nine lectures a week; provided that for any hour of lecture two hours of laboratory or drawing hall work may be substituted. An approved course must include attendance upon laboratory, drawing hall and workshop classes, but candidates having had practical training may be exempted by the Faculty from attendance on workshop classes.

4. No certificate of attendance will be accepted which does not attest that the candidate's work in each subject of the approved course has been satisfactory to the Professor or Lecturer in charge of the subject.

Examinations for the Degree of Bachelor of Engineering 5. The examinations of the Faculty are arranged in three groups, viz. :

:

i. Intermediate. ii. Final.

iii. Honours.

6. The Intermediate examination is held twice a year at times announced in the University Calendar. The subjects of examination may be presented as a whole at

one examination, or in two sections at different examinations, but all the subjects of a section must be passed at the same examination. Candidates may not, without permission of the Faculty, present at the second examination of any year a section which they have not offered at the first examination. The names of the candidates who have passed the several sections of the Intermediate examination are published in alphabetical order.

7. The Final examination is held once a year at a time announced in the University Calendar. The names of candidates successful in the Final examination are published in lists having two classes arranged alphabetically.

8. The Honours examination is held once a year at a time announced in the University Calendar. The names of candidates successful in the Honours examination are published in lists having two classes arranged alphabetically.

9. An oral examination or practical work may be required in any subject.

Attendance Conditions

10. Candidates offering one or both sections of the Intermediate examination must present certificates of attendance during at least one session upon an approved course of study.

II. Candidates for the Final examination must present certificates of attendance during at least one session upon an approved course of study including the five subjects scheduled in Clause 22.

12. Candidates for the examination in Honours must present certificates of attendance during one or two sessions upon approved courses, such attendance to be in sessions immediately following the date of passing the Final examination, or of graduation in some other Faculty.

Ordinary Degree of Bachelor of Engineering

13. Candidates for the Ordinary degree of Bachelor of Engineering must pass the Intermediate examination and the Final examination.

14. Candidates may be allowed to present themselves for the Final examination at the end of their second session of residence, but they must obtain permission to do so from the Faculty before commencing the course of study prescribed for the examination; if successful in the Final examination, they must, before graduation, complete an approved course of study extending over a third session.

Degree of Bachelor of Engineering with Honours 15. Candidates for the degree of the degree of Bachelor Engineering with Honours must either (a) have passed the Intermediate, Final, and Honours examinations, or (b) being graduates of some other Faculty, and having received permission from the Faculty of Engineering to enter upon the Honours course, have passed the Honours examination.

16. Candidates for the Honours examination must present themselves not later than two years after the date of passing the Final examination in Engineering or of graduating in another Faculty.

17. A candidate may sit only once for the Honours examination.

Degree of Master of Engineering

18. The degree of Master of Engineering may be conferred upon qualified Bachelors of Engineering of not less than three years' standing, who satisfy the Faculty that they have pursued the science or practice of Engineering during three years subsequent to graduation. Candidates who have passed the Final examination
