FLORENCE MURRAY:

A NARRATIVE OF FACTS.

BY HER MOTHER.
H. L. M.

"Thus saith the Lord, Let not the wise man glory in his
wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in his might, let
not the rich man glory in his riches: but let him that
glorieth glory in this, that he understandeth and knoweth
me, that I am the Lord which exercise loving-kindness,
judgment, and righteousness, in the earth: for in these things
I delight, saith the Lord.-"Jer. ix. 23, 24.

FLORENCE MURRAY.

CHAPTER I.

'Twas on the twenty second day,
Quite early in the morn,

Of this, the lovely month of May,
My Florence dear was born.

She wept whilst all around her smiled,

May such her conduct be,

That when upon the bed of death,
All near may weep but she.

My darling FLORENCE was born in the beautiful city of which she bore the name,-why should I not

say, bears the name?-for she still lives, although it is in another world; and, if removed from a mother who loved her too well, is she not with her God who redeemed her to himself? She was early called from this life, but not before she had learned to know and love her Saviour; and the circumstances attending the last days of my dearest child were so very remarkable, that I feel it a duty to commit them to paper.

The above lines were written on her birth, by her father, whose delicate health induced us to spend the winter and spring of 1832 in Italy. O! La belle enfant! and, La bellissima bambina ! (the lovely child)
