And if this come to the Governor's Ears, we will perfwade him, and fecure you. So they took the Money, and did as they were taught. And this Saying is commonly reported among the Jews until this Day. 13. And in the midst of the feven Candlesticks, one like unto the Son of Man, cloathed with a Garment down to the Feet, and girt about the Paps with a golden Gir die. CHRIST's Apparition to 14. And his Feet like unto fine Brafs, as if they burned in a Furnace; and his Voice as the found of many Waters. 16. And he had in his right Hand feven Stars: and out of his Mouth went a fharp two-edged Sword and his Countenance was ii as the Sun fhineth in his Strength. 17. And when I faw him, I fell at his Feet as dead; and he laid his right Hand upon me, faying unto me, Fear not; I am the First and the Lait; 18. I am he that LIVETH and WAS DEAD; and behold, I am ALIVE for evermore, Amen; and have the Keys of Hell and of Death. [Mr.JAR FTER that he appeared to them in another Form, unto two of them, as they walked, and went into the Country. [L.] And behold, two of them went that fame Day to a Village called Emmaus which was from Jerufalem about threefcore Furlongs. And they talked together of all thefe Things which had happened. And it came to pafs, that while they communed together, and reafoned, Jefus himself drew near, and went with them. But their Eyes were holden, that they fhould not know him. And he faid unto them, What manner of Communications are these that ye have one to another, as ye walk, and are fad? And the one of them, whofe Name was Cleophas, anfwering, faid unto him, Art thou only a Stranger in Jerufalem, and haft not known the Things which Z z 2 Ezek. xxxvii. 1. The Hand of the Lord was upon me, and carried and fet me down in the midst of the me out in the Spirit of the Lord, Valley which was full of Bones, 2. And caufed me to pass by them round about, and behold, there were very many in the open Valley, and lo, they were very dry 3. And he faid unto me, Son of Man, can thefe Bones live? And I anfwered, O Lord God, thou knoweft. 4. Again he faid unto me, Prophecy upon these Bones, and fay unto them, O ye dry Bones, hear the Word of the Lord. 5. Thus faith the Lord God unto thefe Bones, Behold, I will caufe BREATH to enter into you, and ye fhall live. which are come to pafs there in thefe Days? And he faid unto them, What Things? And they faid unto him, Concerning Jefus of Nazareth, which was a Prophet mighty in Deed and Word, before God and all the People: And how the Chief Priefts and our Rulers delivered him to be condemned to Death, and have crucified him. But we trusted that it had been HE which fhould have REDEEMED Ifrael: And befide all this, to-day is the third Day fince thefe Things were done. Yea, and certain Women alfo of our Company made us astonished, which were early at the Sepulchre: and when they found not his Body, they came, faying, that they had alfo feen a VISION of ANGELS, which faid that he was ALIVE. And certain of them which were with us went to the Sepulchre, and found it even fo as the Women had faid, but him they faw not. Then he faid unto them, O Fools, and flow of Heart to BELIEVE all that the PROPHETS have spoken: Ought not Christ to have fuffered thefe Things, and to enter into his GLORY? And beginning at Mofes and ALL THE PROPHETS, he expounded unto them in all the Scriptures the Things concerning himself. And they drew nigh unto the Village whither they went; and he made as though he would have gone further. But they constrained him, faying, Abide with us, for it is towards Evening, and the Day is far fpent: And he went in to tarry with them. And it came to pafs, as he fat at Meat with them, he took Bread, and bleffed it, and brake and gave to them. And their Eyes were opened, and they knew him, and he vanifhed out of their Sight. And they faid one to another, Did not our Heart burn within us, while he talked with us by the Way, and while he opened to us the Scriptures? And they rofe up the fame Hour, and returned to Jerufalem, [Mr.] and went [L.] and found the Eleven gathered together, and them that were with them, saying, The Lord is RISEN indeed, and hath appeared to Simon. [Mr.] And they told unto the Refidue [L.] what Things were done in the Way, and how he was known of them in breaking of Bread: Neither believed they them. CHRIST appears to his Difciples the Evening after bis Refurrection, Thomas being abfent. [7] HEN the fame Day at Evening, being the first Day of the Week, when the Doors were fhut where the Disciples were affembled, for fear of the Jews, Jefus [L] HIMSELF [7] came and stood in the midft [L.] of them. But they were terrified and affrighted, and fuppofed that they had feen a Spirit. And he faid unto them, Why are ye troubled, and why do Thoughts arife in your Hearts? Behold my Hands and my Feet, that it is I my felf: HANDLE me, and fee, for a SPIRIT hath not Flesh and Bones, as ye fee me have. And when he had thus fpoken, he fhewed them his HANDS and his FEET, [7] and his SIDE. Then were the Difciples glad when they faw the Lord. [L.] And while they yet believed not for Joy, and wondred, he faid unto them, Have ye here any Meat? And they gave him a Piece of a broiled Fish, and of an Honeycomb. And he took it, and did eat before them. [Mr.] And he UPBRAIDED them with their UNBELIEF and Hardness of Heart, becaufe they BELIEVED NOT them which had feen him after he was rifen. [L.] And he faid unto them, These are the Words which I fpake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all Things must be FULFILLED, which were written in the Law of Mofes, and in the PROPHETS, and in the PSALMS concerning me. Then opened he their Understanding, that they might understand the Scriptures, and faid unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved CHRIST to SUFFER, and to RISE from the Dead the third Day and that Repentance and Remiffion of SINS fhould be preached in his Name among ALL Nations, beginning at Jerufalem. And ye are Witneffes of thefe Things. [7] Then faid Jefus to them again, Peace be unto you: As my Father hath fent me, even fo fend I you. And when he had faid this, he breathed on them, and faith unto them, Receive ye the HOLY GHOST. Whofefoever SINS ye remit, they are remitted unto them; and whofefoever SINS ye retain, they are retained. CHRIST appears to his Difciples the eighth Day after bis Refurrection, when Thomas was present. [BUT UT Thomas, one of the Twelve, called Didymus, was not with them when Jefus came. The other Difciples therefore faid unto him, We have SEEN the Lord. But he faid unto them, Except I fhall fee in his Hands the Print of the Nails, and put my Fingers into the Print of the Nails, and thruft my Hand into his Side, I will not believe. And after eight Days, again his Difciples were within, and Thomas with them: then came Jefus, the Doors being fhut, and stood in the midst, and faid, Peace be unto you. Then faith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy Finger, and behold my, Hands; and reach hither thy Hand, and thruft it into my Side, and be not FAITHLESS, but BELIEVING. And Thomas anfwered and faid unto him, My Lord and my God. Jefus faith unto him, Thomas, becaufe thou haft feen me, thou haft believed: Bleffed are they that have not feen, and yet have believed. And many other SIGNS truly did Jefus, in the Prefence of his Difciples, which are not written in this Book. But these are written, that ye might BELIEVE that fefus is the Chrift the Son of GoD, and that believing, ye might have LIFE through his Name. *****************!********** CHRIST fhews himself to his Difciples at the Sea of Tiberias. [7]AFTER thefe Things, Jefus fhewed himself again to the Difciples at the Sea of Tiberias: and on this wife fhewed he himself: There were together Simon Peter, and Thomas called Didymus, and Nathanael of Cana in Galilee, and the Sons of Zebedee, and two other of his Difciples.
