The Order how the Psalter is appointed

to be read.

The Psalter shall be read through once every
Month, as it is there appointed, both for
Morning and Evening Prayer. But in February
it shall be read onely to ye Twenty eighth, or
Twenty ninth day of ye Month.

And, whereas January, March, May, July, August, October, and December have One and thirty days apiece; It is ordered, that the same Psalms shall be read ye last day of ye said months, which were read the day before: 0 that ye Psalter may begin again ye first day of ye next Month ensuing.

And whereas the CXIX Psalm is divided into xxii Portions, and is over long to be read at one time; It is so ordered, that at one time shall not be read above four or five of ye said Portions.

And at the end of every Psalm, and of every such part of ye CXIX Psalm shall be repeated this Hymn,

Glory be to ye Father, and to ye Son and to ye Holy Ghost; As it was in ye begining, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Note, that ye Psalter followeth ye Division of ye Hebrews, and the Translation of ye great English Bible, set forth and used in ye time of K. Henry yo Eighth and Edward ye Sixth.

How the rest of holy Scripture is appointed to be read.

The Old Testament is appointed for ye first

P

Lessons at Morning and Evening [rayer; so as ye most part thereof will be read every year once, as in the Kalendar is appointed.

The New Testament is appointed for ye econd Lessons at Morning and Evening Prayer, and shall be read over orderly every year thrice besides ye Epistles and Gospels; Except ye Apocalyps, out of which there are onely certain proper Lessons appointed upon diverse Feasts. And to know what Lessons shall be read every

day, look for ye day of ye onth in ye Kalendar following, and there ye shall find ye Chapters that shall be read for ye Lessons both at Morning and Evening Prayer; Except onely ye Moveable Feasts which are not in the Kalendar, and ye Immoveable, where there is a blank left in ye Column of Lessons; ye proper Lessons for all which days are to be found in ye Table of pper Lessons.

And note, That whensoever proper Psalms or Lessons are appointed; then the Psalms and Lessons of ordinary course appointed in ye Psalter and Kalendar (if they be different) shall be omitted for that time.

Note also, That ye Collect, Epistle, and Gospel appointed for the Sunday shall serve all ye week after, where it is not in this Book otherwise ordered.

The 3rd page of the MS. Book commences with "The Order How the rest". The hole, through which the tape ran by which the MS. was annexed to the Transmiss, is quite apparent in this, and in every succeeding leaf of the MS. The hole is in the lower inner corner, and about a of an inch from the bottom of the leaf.
