The Minister should, as a matter of caution, inspect the licence or certificate, in order to ascertain that the Place of Worship is the place therein specified, and that the marriage is had within three calendar months after the entry of the notice of the marriage; and he should likewise satisfy himself of the identity of the parties.

The Registrar of marriages is entitled to a fee of ten shillings, if the marriage be by licence; otherwise, to a fee of five shillings.

FORM FOR THE

BURIAL OF THE DEAD.

The Minister, meeting the Corpse, as it is brought into the Chapel, shall say:

I AM the resurrection and the life, saith the Lord: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live:

And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. John, xi. 25, 26.

We brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. 1 Tim. vi. 7.

The Lord gave, and the Lord hath taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord. Job, i. 21.

All flesh is as grass, and all the glory of as the flower of grass.

man

The grass

withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away: but the word of the Lord endureth for ever. 1 Pet. i. 24, 25.

Afterwards shall be read one of the following Psalms, viz. xxxiv., xxxix., xc., ciii., and after that one of the following portions of the New Testament, viz. John, xi. 1-46. John, xiv. 1 Cor. xv. 1 Thess. iv. v. 1—11.

¶ The Minister may here deliver a short Exhortation, and offer up a Prayer.

¶ When they come to the grave, the Minister shall

say:

MAN that is born of a woman hath but a short time to live, and is full of trouble: he cometh up, and is cut down like a flower; he fleeth as it were a shadow, and never continueth in one stay. In the midst of life, we are in death: of whom may we seek for succour, but of thee, O Lord, in whom our souls do rest and hope?

While the earth is cast upon the body, the
Minister shall say:

FORASMUCH as it hath pleased Almighty God to take unto himself the soul of our brother [sister] here departed,

we therefore commit his [her] body to the ground; earth to earth, ashes to ashes, dust to dust in the sure expectation of a resurrection from the dead both of the just and the unjust, through our Lord Jesus Christ.

OUR Father, who art in heaven, hallowed

be thy name; thy kingdom come; thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven ; give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive them that trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil; for thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.

MERCIFUL God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who is the resurrection and the life; in whom whosoever believeth shall live, though he die; and whosoever liveth and believeth in him, shall not die eternally; who also hath taught us, by the holy apostle Paul, not to sorrow as men without hope for them that sleep in him: we meekly beseech thee, O Father, to raise us from the death of sin unto the life of righteousness; that, when we shall depart this life, we may rest in him; and, at our

resurrection from the dead, may be found acceptable in thy sight, and receive the joyful sentence of our Lord, “Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world." Grant this, O heavenly Father, of thine infinite mercy and goodness. Amen.

THE grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with us all evermore. Amen.
