THE

TELESCOPE OF THE GOSPEL.

A Telescope is an instrument by which we gaze upon the vast and wonderful in the world of nature around us, and bring that which is remote and invisible to the naked human eye near to us. The Gospel is an instrument by which we gaze upon all that is magnificent and glorious in the kingdoms of providence and grace, and cause them to pass in review before our eyes.

CHAPTER I.

ON THE CHARACTER OF THE PEOPLE OF GOD.

IN the Telescope of the Gospel we see their character. God has had a people in every age of time to serve him—a people who have chosen him to be their husband, father, protector, guide, and friend-and whom God has set apart for himself in his eternal purpose, in the mediation of his Son, in the communications of his grace, in the promises of his gospel, in the directions
