SCHOOL OF LOCAL HISTORY AND

RECORDS

The object of the School is the study, editing and publication of the history and records, mediaeval and modern, of the City of Liverpool and adjoining counties. Its library includes a palaeographical section, with a large collection of facsimiles of manuscripts of all periods. Students are admitted to membership and to the work of the School after training in Palaeography and Diplomatics but persons otherwise qualified are also eligible.

Under the auspices of the School, a class for the study of the original sources of the history of Liverpool is held at the University by Associate Professor Twemlow, Hon. Secretary of the School, from whom further information may be obtained.

SCHOOL OF RUSSIAN STUDIES

The object of the School is to develop the study of the different aspects of Russian language, literature, history, institutions, economy, and culture, and of the achievements of Russian scholars in arts and science. The subject is recognised for a University Degree, and Certificate, the latter can be taken independently of other studies after a course of two years. Russia can also be selected for economic study under the regulations for the commercial degree. Students who have studied the Russian Language or any special subject relating to Russia, are assisted to obtain teaching posts, temporary (during the long vacation) or permanent. Special attention is given to the qualifying of Englishmen for posts connected with Russian trade. Most of the best known English students of Russia are members of the School. The School aims at publication of the results of researches in Russia, and of translations of important Russian books. The premises of the School are in the University, and include a Russian Class Library of about 4,000 volumes. All communications should be addressed to Professor Bruce Boswell at the University.
