1603. The services of the members of the Council are gratuitous, and they are entitled to no compensation other than the expenses occasioned by their presence at any regular or special meeting of the Council. 32 V., c. 15, s. 26.

1610. Any member of the Council, who shall not have attended meetings during a whole year, shall ipso facto cease to form part thereof, and shall be replaced, unless he has given to the Commissioner satisfactory reasons for his absence. 41 V., c. 5, s. 13.

1613. An illustrated journal of agriculture shall be published by order of the Commissioner, on such conditions as may be approved by the Lieutenant-Governor in Council. 41 V., c. 5, s. 5.

1614. Every by-law passed and every resolution or measure adopted by the Council must be submitted for approval to the Lieutenant-Governor in Council before being put into execution. 32 V., c. 15, s. 39.

1615. SECTION V.

Formation of

societies for

§ 1.-County, City and Town Societies.

I.-FORMATION OF SUCH SOCIETIES.

1616. An agricultural society may be formed in each of agricultural the counties of the Province and in the electoral divisions of each county. each town or city, whenever forty persons have become members thereof, and have signed a declaration in the form of schedule A to this section annexed, and such society shall consist of all such as may then or thereafter have signed such declaration.

1617. If the choice made by the said agricultural society be approved, the said county council shall pass a by-law ordering that, in future, all exhibitions of such county or part of county shall be held at the place so chosen.

Nevertheless, if after such approval, twenty members of the society should disapprove the choice so made, they may, within thirty days following the passing of the said municipal by-law, appeal to the Commissioner by petition, signed by at least twenty members of the said society, setting forth their complaints; and the decision of the Commissioner shall be final. 37 V., c. 5, s. 2.

IV. UNION OF SOCIETIES.

Whenever there are one or more agricultural societies unorganized in a county, and that any one of them shall not have been organized for the space of two years or more, the Council of Agriculture, in case it is deemed suitable, shall have the right to unite the said societies into one county society. 37 V., c. 5

1624.
